He should put the two computers side by side and go thru the email setups and note any differences..........

Have to know if it is ‘never’ or ‘almost never’ because that could indicate a setting issue if it is ‘never’

I guess I wouldn't have thought to say "almost never" if it weren't almost never.

FTR, I think the problem has increased toward never since I've been down in Florida. It may even have worked normally when I first got here. I just don't remember.

I am the only user on both machines, but the client's machine (which doesn't exhibit the problem) was set up by someone else more than a year ago.

Quick/easy fix: I suggest dumping Yahoo for another provider

You clever people probably don't have clients that you did work for ten years or more ago who might wish to contact you. (Or friends even.)

Is there any VPN involved on either yours or your client’s computer?

Yahoo email was compromised years ago by it’s own employees. I know from experience. That means everyone on your contact list was compromised too. I use hushmail now, never one piece of spam.

if it’s ‘almost never’ then it complicates things- if it is ‘almost never’ then it could be something like a VPN not connecting to a server yet, thus not allowing you to connect to the internet- (Not saying this is the problem, just giving a scenario that could cause it to happen ‘almost all the time’)

If it is ‘almost never’ then it sounds like some program is is causing it- one way to test would be to shut down all browser adons,

If you could never connect, then it points to a setting, like a firewall setting always preventing it

If you run a firewall, i would turn that off and try connecting a frew times, to see if maybe that is preventing you sometimes from connecting to yahoo-

Receiving email to yourself from your own account. You think there might be a problem!

Is it *only* e-mail that you are having issues with? Any other sites?

[[I guess I wouldn’t have thought to say “almost never” if it weren’t almost never.]]

no i guess not- but folks sometimes say ‘almost’ when they really mean ‘never’ or something similar- force of habit- which is why i asked-

One other thing i thought maybe- You could try clearing your cache, if it still persists- you could try running a network connection troubleshooter- look up how to do that if you don’t know how- there’s a few steps to do that- Sometimes the troubleshooter can fix a connection issue- sometimes not

Just set up auto-forwarding of yahoo email to your current account. Then you will not need to login to the old account.

Way back in prehistoric times, we would use these utilities to speed up web access and what a lot of them would do is add a website and its IP address to the .hosts file to bypass looking it up. That worked great until the IP address changed, of course, and then you were SOL, and if you didn’t know that’s how it was done, you were really SOL. (Which makes the .hosts file a good way to lock out the young wisenheimers in your family.)

Probably not what’s going on with you but always good to mention it nonetheless.

Windows 10 email access problem... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Thanks to deoetdoctrinae for the ping!

Clear out you cache!

Looks like clearing out the cache did it! Mail came right up like old times.
