Longtime ESPN SportsCenter reporter Pedro Gomez passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 7. Gomez, who began with ESPN in 2003, was 58 years old.
“Pedro was far more than a media personality. He was a Dad, loving husband, loyal friend, coach and mentor,” the Gomez family said in a statement. “He was our everything and his kids’ biggest believer. He died unexpectedly at home this afternoon.”
“We are shocked and saddened to learn that our friend and colleague Pedro Gomez has passed away,” said Chairman, ESPN and Sports Content James Pitaro. “Pedro was an elite journalist at the highest level and his professional accomplishments are universally recognized. More importantly, Pedro was a kind, dear friend to us all. Our hearts are with Pedro’s family and all who love him at this extraordinarily difficult time.”
Pedro came to ESPN from the Arizona Republic where he had served as a sports columnist and national baseball writer since 1997.

R.I.P.
I never heard of the guy, but I translate that statement to mean that he injected far-left politics into his sportscasting.
His parents were Cuban refugees, those usually are far from Far-Left.
Looks like a TV Preacher - Benny Hinn.
Yeah that’s appropriate. Passing along your opinion of a guy who just died who you admittedly know nothing about. A very leftist take. Congrats. (see what I just did there?)
The ones I know (and they are many) are all pronouncedly conservative.
Those days are long gone:
“Biden picks Alejandro Mayorkas, a son of Jewish Cuban refugees, to lead the Department of Homeland Security.”
I don’t recall him participating in any leftist crap, seemed pretty much there to do his job. He may have been a lefty but not overt apparent.
Who gives a @@$# ?
just curious... did he happen to receive a certain vaccine recently?
“Who gives a @@$# ?”
Who? His family, his friends, his fans.... pretty crass post there Conserve. I lost my husband suddenly and unexpectedly as well @ 53. It tears one’s heart and soul to shreds. If you cannot have a morsel of compassion, maybe you should just shut the he11 up.
Most TV personalities usually are good to very good-looking.
Unexpectedly?
Very sad.
Bravo! Sorry for your loss sevin
Hi Red Badger and yes, 100% unexpectedly. Cardiac arrest/everything just stopped. His passing convinced me when God says it’s your time, it’s your time and nothing can change. He was healthy (so we thought), physically fit, strong, HAPPY/never stressed, no diabetes, low cholesterol levels, we ate very healthy foods, heck at 53 he still played soccer every Sunday. He was so full of LIFE! Then one day after lunch he just fell down and stopped living. Words cannot describe the shock.
Reason I write this is it’s therapy for me. We met at 15, started dating at 17, and married at 19. Married almost 35 years until this. It took 2 1/2 years for me to accept he was REALLY not coming back ever although I was RIGHT THERE with him when it happened and barged into the ER once we got to the hospital as I absolutely refused to leave his side. If not for the grace of God I would not be here now....I assure you that.
I’m very, unhappy with the state of the world and nation, but my perspective is I know God allowed for Trump, and He’s allowing for Biden. The crummy mess WE AS A NATION have allowed to happen is why. We sat by and watched while sinful and evil people slowly took over places of power pushing God out of the picture. Now that the entire forest is on fire we want to put it back like it was, but we cannot “unburn” up the trees. We have to regrow them. That takes a long time to do..... As much as I wish my husband were back with me, I’m glad he isn’t having to watch what’s happening to the America he so loved. Least he got to see Trump voted in. We did go to one of his early rallies together in Radford, VA and it was so much fun. :) Take care Badger.
