Julie Andrews is remembering her former costar Christopher Plummer after his death on Friday. He was 91.
The Oscar winner mourned Plummer in a statement to PEOPLE, reminiscing on their time together filming the 1965 classic The Sound of Music.
"The world has lost a consummate actor today and I have lost a cherished friend. I treasure the memories of our work together and all the humor and fun we shared through the years. My heart and condolences go out to his lovely wife Elaine, and his daughter Amanda," Andrews, 85, said.
The two actors were linked throughout their career after starring as Captain Von Trapp and Maria in the beloved musical. They came together to recall the making of the movie during its 50th anniversary in 2015, including a talk at the TCM Classic Film Festival's screening of the film.

I did not realize that she is 85 years old...
I did not know that Mr. Plummer did not like the film...He did enjoy working with Julie Andrews...
If I have to name the most famous film with Mr. Plummer, I have to name THE SOUND OF MUSIC...Whether he liked the movie or not...Yes, he has been in other movies...
That's a question...
Julie Andrews on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson: https://youtu.be/3G1s_t1-wpw
Yes he did. A fine movie.
Thanks, and yes it was a most excellent movie. Christopher Plummer played a quite convincing Duke of Wellington.
I just checked him out on Wikipedia the other day. Quite a loss but we all gotta go sometime.
It's kind of like Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood being judged on their performance in Paint Your Wagon. Neither one could carry a tune in a sack...
He did indeed.
My favorite movie in my 67 years.. I can almost say the entire script. Very special to me.
I think Mr. Plummer termed the classic 60s movie "sappy," and "The Sound of Mucus"
I'll remember his portrayal of Klingon General Chang in Star Trek VI, who is mostly heard spouting Shakespeare… He played it campy (which old Trek was noted for) and it was hilarious! He'll be missed – RIP
He was in a ton of things, one that I was forced to endure was a TV rendering of the old kids book Madeline about a girls school in Paris run by nuns. He was the narrator and my daughter, for a time, was head over heels in love with that show so I heard his voice a lot. He did a nice job reading the intentionally silly material with a touch of seriousness coupled with whimsy that helped elevate it. He was just good at what he did.
Dolores Claiborne (1995)
“Now you listen here, Mr. Grand High Poobah of UPPER BUTT CRACK..I’m just about half past give-a-shit with your fun and games.”
The famous quote from Dolores (Kathy Bates) to Detective John Mackey (Christopher Plummer).
She has been performing for a long time. I believe she was the original Guenevere in the Broadway production of Camelot along with Richard Burton as King Arthur and Robert Goulet as Lancelot. That was in the 60's I think.
I saw her onstage in CAMELOT when I was a kid. She was great.
