OAKLAND, Calif. - California Gov. Gavin Newsom doesn’t want to talk about the recall. But his allies can’t ignore it.
The campaign to oust Newsom went from unlikely to unavoidable this week as pervasive frustration with Newsom’s pandemic management cut sharply into his approval numbers. The longer businesses have been closed, hospitals full and school campuses shut, the more the movement has gained traction beyond conservative social media circles.
The nation's biggest Democratic vulnerability after a score of blue victories has become an irresistible nightly feature on Fox News. Should the effort qualify, look for money to pour into the state and celebrities to add their names to the ballot, if only for the promotional benefits.
Newsom still deflects questions about the opposition effort by saying he is singularly focused on vaccinating Californians and reducing Covid-19 spread. He has adamantly denied that his abrupt decision to reverse stay-at-home orders last month was an attempt to quell voter frustration. And he seems determined to avoid legitimizing the effort by acknowledging it.
But California Democrats and their political backers are bracing for a campaign nevertheless as recall organizers turn in hundreds of thousands of signatures. State lawmakers are proclaiming their support for Newsom, seeking to tamp down any signs of disunity. Interest groups and donors who would be called upon to fund a recall defense are quietly ramping up, with one union launching the first public counteroffensive.
“Are we getting prepared to oppose it? Of course,” said Joe Cotchett, a longtime ally and donor to Newsom.

California sucks but I like their recall mechanism.
That’s all well and good, but what replaces him? Remember.. it’s Cali.
This doesn’t mean Californians are getting smart.
People there are just fickle; and right now they are ficklin’ on their govnah.

Even if they do recall him, what are the voters going to replace him with? Another liberal democrat or a Republican in name only?
Last time CA had a governor recall, it got worse by a series of magnitudes.
Now if only the same mechanism was in place for the POTUS, or in this case, the Thief in Command.

I understand two million verified signatures of legally qualified voters are required. Suddenly, signature verification has become important to the DemonRats.

Actually it is 1.5 million verified signatures (12% of the last California governor’s race in 2018 = 0.12 * 12.46 million = 1.495 million). It isn’t based on 12% of the last general election where 17.5 million votes were cast in the 2020 presidential election.
IF the recall is effective, and I don't think it will be even with a billion signatures because the corrupt legislature, election officials and courts will discount the signatures as invalid (which is something they will be intensely curious about once a Democrat is the target, but I digress).
But even if he does get booted, the only thing that changes is that his likelihood of running for Prez is reduced. He comes from the rich, the rich funded his run for governor, and he will return (once recalled) to the rich as a lobbyist.
The only thing hurt in Newsom's life is his pride. And he'll get over it with his lucrative and cushioned life.
But I totally approve of the recall and hope he gets booted.

Also, citizens in all states need to work with their state lawmakers to make the following changes to their state constitutions regarding quarantines imo.
State constitutions need to be amended to put time limits on quarantines.
State constitutions also need to be amended to make state health officials elected by popular vote.
Constitutionally time-limited lockdowns need to automatically trigger special recall elections for governors, mayors and health officials who order quarantines, also state lawmakers.
Finally, constitutions need to require people planning to run for state and local offices to escrow a refundable "recall deposit" before becoming a candidate, the deposit fully paying in advance for their possible recall elections if they are elected, amounts determined by law.
