“People who buy/sell individual stocks should just go to online gambling.”

Keep in the game.

Some people who have educated themselves and been in many markets can beat index funds or limit loss in down markets. Get a book about stocks from the 1970s, learn the concepts apart from todays hype, where a sideways market was the rule and not a rare event. In Markets going down 100% cash and gold gets to a lot of investors, they fall asleep, going to small option bets that either are small loss or perhaps a big gain. If you can keep in touch with the market with a few calls and put contracts every week it is easier to understand when it become time to buy the underlying stock.

It is not the trading firm pulling the buy option, it is the clearing firm of the trades running out money for the 2 days between buy and payment, for that they typically get microcents per trade. Sells cash is on hand immediately. They are doing only what they can until one of the bank is condoled into dumping a billion of the feds money in to maintain clearing exchanges liquidity.

A micro event has ran a particular retail investor firm out of liquidity because it lacks its own trade clearing systems. I was in and out of several of the names at fidelity eating small bits of profits on the wasteful trading going on in 2 dozen stocks the titans of wall street thought must surely go close to zero in March 2021. The got greedy, they sold more than weekly shorts, and since the market price in the underlying is so high, their friends jump in also.

My shoeshine boy told me to buy.

Maybe it's time to study a different play. Not that I don't appreciate what happened this past week.

What gets me pissed is how a couple of guys et all. can get together and provide a new kind of service that allows millions to participate who wouldn’t have get the screws put to them by the swamp because of their own customers success.

If you don’t take possession of something, you don’t own it.

Buy spare parts for anything you own that needs spare parts.

That’s a pretty general statement.

I have a portfolio of stocks that I have been buying over the years. They give me appreciation and dividends. If you are not just tossing darts at a board you can do pretty well.

Mutual funds can be expensive and I guarantee you don’t “know” what you own. Buying a basket of 500 stocks is boring and lazy. And you have a large group of woke management running your life.

“AMD $85

AMC $13

I think he means AMD”

AMC is the one with the huge short action. Its a movie theater, it entire quarter was going to be made by “Top GUN 2, Val fits his ass in a plane”

AMD is having supply problems, but has raised prices per unit.

The titans of wall street Shorted AMC. AMD might be a long term sell but you would be insane to bet the counter to INTEL finally shipping chips on smaller process.

Intel by the way latest announcement was they still are not shipping the consumer chips with core counts anyplace close to AMD. Intel have nothing that can beat a video card from the other two players.

I have a machine running last generations $500 dollar video card on a 5 year old server CPU ($5), $20 bucks of Used Ram and $85 motherboad built for the india market. Intel and ADM only client that matter are the cloud providers, the rest of the world can live off the scrap heap of Amazons upgrades.

Shorting INTEL and Going Long AMD/NVidia will at least pay off on one side, all that matters, ballancing that trade so you limit your downside and make the upside a big number.

Time to find a new broker so you can invest your own $ the way you see fit. Fidelity has been very good for me and their software is top notch especially desktop pro trader.

Reddit aren't buying Silver. They're buying SLV - the ETF for Silver. Freepers should avoid SLV and just buy the metal.

Agree with you on both points, unless you are willing and able to support this group more than just making a profit. They're advocating holding contracts and taking delivery of physical. This combined action may create many market problems, resulting in a delay or complete loss of one's investment.

Buying physical will have much less impact on what this group is hoping to accomplish, but it will help drive Silver's price higher, which isn't that stratospheric yet. I have what I want, but if I were in the mood to buy, and money was tight, I look at picking up pre-1965 American silver coins and as many as I could reasonably afford. The smaller the denomination, the better. Ten mercury dimes will now fill up the gas tank of a medium-size car. If I had several thousands of dollars to invest, I'd look at American Silver Eagles. If I had thoughts of leaving the country, I'd buy silver bars or rounds and refashion them into objects so I might be able to cross borders.

So, much depends on one's plans.

A problem with stocks or metals, more especially with paper assets, is that TPTB forces you to use their vehicles to move these assets. I much more prefer trading in crypto because of this. And it's just as easy to send value from country to country as it is from state to state and to do so almost instantly. Elon tweeted, "BTC was inevitable." Many take that to mean crypto will eventually be the better means of storing value.

Just my 2 Dogie coins worth...:)

i’m on the outside looking in but intel does not seem to be able to recover in anything less than 3 years if amd-friendly news reports are to be believed— allegedly intel has made some fundamental blunders. if so, then given intel stock has not yet dropped to a degree commensurate with their expected loss in absolute performance and price/performance

over the past calendar year:

intel ... dropped 15%
sp 500 ... gained 13%
amd ... gained 80%

all other things considered equal, intel’s hurt / share should equal amd’s gain / share. however, such is not the case. is this due to a differential in market share? if so, economics dictates that intel stock should take a deeper dive over time as market demand re-adjusts (yes?).

is it time to short intel?

https://www.fool.com/investing/how-to-invest/stocks/how-to-short-stock/

i guess inflation can play havoc with shorts (yes?)

AMD at 85 is near its top. There are thousands of stocks to choose from. Sell AMD at 87 if you can. Then, buy back in at 85 and hope for 87 again. Then look for 84. Remember, You May see the Dow 30 at 5% lower. You may see AMD or several thousand other stocks at 5% lower. Would you rather buy and hold at 85 and watch AMD fall to 80? In other words, “It is at the top, sell for a profit and look to buy in at a lower price.”

I know nothing about stocks, but I do know that AMD’s most recent microprocessors are giving Intel heartburn in price/performance benchmarks.

This is not investment advice but STAY AWAY FROM BOTH. Unless they both use this short squeeze to raise oodles of money in a secondary offering (and for GME, change their business model dramatically) they really are on their deathbeds as going concerns.

I am no fan of shorting or the shenanigans Wall Street funds play, or the way the markets are structured and operate inside the exchanges and broker-dealers/market makers, but as far as investment thesis goes the shorts are right on both stocks. The funds just got so used to bullying abd blustering their way through the markets they never saw they could be sideswiped by a flash mob. And this is/was no ordinary flash mob. Many of the people behind it know how the markets operate and why those two stocks, and several others, were perfect targets for a short squeeze of epic proportion. It won’t last.

The market will sort itself out, and since some big funds lost billions of dollars the FBI is probably suiting up now to pull a Roger Stone on some of the more vocal short squeeze voices for securities manipulation. I might even argue that the reason the markets went down 600 points on Wednesday and another 600 Friday is partially due to funds liquidating to raise collateral, or, simply in recognition that there is a new market dynamic they didn’t contemplate and want to move cash to the sidelines and see how things shake out. Even Liz Warren, who posted billboards all over my home city “Break Up Big Tech” during the primaries, has sent a letter to the SEC demanding answers for how this could happen!?!. I could explain it to her, but she isn’t really interested in the answer.
