Apple shipped more than 1.5 million iPhone units in India in the quarter that ended in December, up 100% year-on-year, making this its best quarter in the world’s largest smartphone market to date, according to research firms Counterpoint and CyberMedia Research.

Well, duh!
India doesn’t have wealthy poor people like we do!..................
It speaks to India’s growing wealth that Apple’s products are growing in sales there. That’s a good thing for the world - a wealthy and powerful India could serve as a counter to China.
All the new delis in India have wifi, to curry favor with their customers.
LOL yes it is always good to curry favors for customers if you want more customers in your joint.
OTOH curry is loaded with curcumin which is a proven inflammation reducer. Never a bad thing when attacked by covid-19 in to your lungs which results in overly massive response by the body, inflaming lung tissue.
Apple does not manufacture iPhones in India. Apples sells them to the ever growing middle class there.
I never said otherwise.
Even the poor have smartphones in India, it is quite amazing.
Now that Biden’s going to raise taxes on companies - places like Apple would be better off staying in India - - RATHER than bringing India here...
Indians work cheap in the US - they work cheaper in India.
Since ‘green jobs’ are not going to appear...it’s gonna be a rough four years. Which is what dems want. It’ll be the economic version of Antifa and BLM riots. Staged intentionally to wear us down.
That average income of workers in India of $2000 is misleading. First, $2000 in India buys a lot more than $2000 in US. Last time I visited, men’s haircut was US 25 cents. If you want your house remodeled, you can do it for 1/8th the cost in US.
And another point, the middle class earns more than $2000/yr and there are more people in middle class in India than there are people in United States.
Sorry I misunderstood, by your comment about cheap labor in India. Apple is not utilizing cheap labor in India to manufacture iPhones. Apple should assemble them in India to circumvent the ridiculously high import duty in India.
The goal of Obama’s democrat party is to bring the middle class down to level of lower middle class or even lower. That way most people are down to the level of low skilled lower class. That makes everybody equal and the so called “white privilege” disappears.
The rich got richer during Obama regime. While middle class manufacturing jobs were shipped to China.
There are several Foxconn and Wistron factories assembling iphones in India. Soon the iphone 12 will also be assembled here. A third company has been licenced to assemble them recently.
Same as Japanese car makers assembling cars in US for sales in US. Because the Indian market is so large, it makes perfect sense to assemble iPhones there to get around to Indian tariffs. Same iPho0ne which costs $1100 in US has a price tag of $1700 in India with the added import taxes.
