Major Carnival Cruise Update: More Ship Changes
Cruise Hive ^ | Jan 25, 2021 | Emrys Thakkar

Carnival Cruise Line has released a major update on ship deployments. This includes several changes for when ships will return after their dry dock and some deployment changes. Unfortunately, most of it is not so good as the cruise line has already announced a further suspension until May and further delays ships.

Carnival Cruise Line Deployment Changes The Miami-based cruise line has made a number of changes, and original plans have been thrown out the window with further delays due to dry docks. The global pandemic and the impact on the industry are not making it easy, so ships have needed to shuffle around a bit once operations resume.

Here are the specifics released from Carnival:

Related to already-announced dry dock plans for Carnival Magic, Carnival Paradise and Carnival Valor, those ships’ return to operations will be delayed until November 2021. Consequently, voyages on Carnival Magic from Norfolk (embarkations from Sept. 29-Oct. 30), Carnival Paradise from Tampa (embarkations from June 5-Oct. 28) and Carnival Valor from New Orleans (embarkations from Sept. 16-Oct. 28) have been cancelled.

Carnival Miracle’s planned seasonal service from San Diego has been suspended until further notice, and sailings out of San Diego that were available for sale through April 2023 have been cancelled, with the exception of seven voyages to Hawaii, which will move to Long Beach.

Carnival Radiance’s dry dock and transformation has been moved to September, with a planned arrival to Long Beach in November 2021.

With Carnival Miracle’s reposition to Long Beach, the ship will assume the three- and four-day itineraries for Carnival Radiance from May 3-Nov. 1, 2021 as well as the seven Hawaii Carnival Journeys referenced above. In addition, Carnival Miracle will launch a new program of four- and five-day cruises to Mexico during the winter season, beginning November 2021 and continuing through April 2023.

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said:

“Like so much about this current global situation, we are adapting our plans as circumstances evolve and we are able to confirm alternatives. We are disappointed that our return to seasonal ports like Norfolk and San Diego has been impacted and appreciate the support of those port partners and communities.

The support of our guests, travel agents, ports and business partners has truly been overwhelming as we work through this situation.”

The Impact on Carnival Guests As usual, the cruise line is getting in touch with guests impacted by any deployment changes. This is usually done via email and through travel agents. A Future Cruise Credit is usually the choice for a future cruise booking or a simple full refund.

With many of the adjustments focused on the U.S. West Coast and the delay of the newly transformed Carnival Radiance, the cruise line is offering more specific options.

Those who were booked on Carnival Radiance are being provided the option to transfer to Carnival Miracle or retain their Hawaiian itinerary via a Long Beach embarkation instead.

Three Ships from Long Beach Later in the year, it’s looking like Long Beach, California will become busy for Carnival Cruise Line. There will eventually be three ships based from the West Coast port.

Carnival Panorama, which is already based from the port, will be sailing 7-day Mexican Riviera itineraries. Once she finally joins the fleet after a huge makeover in Cadiz, Spain, Carnival Radiance will also sail from Long Beach on 3-day and 4-day itineraries year-round.

Carnival Miracle will also sail 4-day and 5-day cruises to Mexico along with 14-day Hawaii itineraries during the winter. With all this doom and gloom there will still be plenty to choose from.

Carnival Will Make a Comeback There has been a tone of disappointments from the cruise line recently with its suspension being extended through April 2021 just weeks after the previous extension along with the delay once again for Madi Gras.

There’s still plenty to look forward to later in the year with fresh new ships after dry docks and we’ll start to see ships resume cruises. Before we know it, the industry will start to come back.

Recently read sailings will likely be delayed until the end of 2021 or in 2022, and Carnival execs are selling their stock. (WSJ/Barrons).

Sorry about my screwing up my above comments. I just touched my keypad it posted an incomplete response.

For those interested in stocks, this should start a downward trend in Cruise Line stocks as the recovery of the Cruise lines keeps moving away.

For those looking for cruises on the West coast, it looks like East coast problems are spreading there also.

In the future borrowing more money to keep cruise lines going is not going to be that easy.

You can spin it about cruise loyalty and all the pent up desires to Cruise, but IMHO the Cruise delays and postponements have gone on too long, and the Cruise business is going to have to substantially shrink. -Tom

My mother said she gave me the right name-Thomas-as in doubting Thomas.
I tend not to take things at face value.

So I understand the Cruise lines portraying a positive "wait till next year" attitude.

Besides the Cruise Lines losing their Billions, they are also endangering the Billions loaned to them. -Tom

Anyone has checked into all inclusive joints like Sandals?
I have never checked into them because I am not much of a beach person. But if they have good entertainment and shows and food, might me worthwhile trying one out until cruises return to business.

I’m a petri disher, but this is insane.

Why aren’t the cruise lines hauling Fedzilla to court?!

Why hasn’t Congress passed WuFlu liability protection for the cruise biz and all other biz?

Why aren’t the cruise lines fighting for their livelihoods?

The problems for the cruise lines are they are not American companies, and have flagged their ships in foreign countries to avoid taxes and regulations and unionized crews, so as the USA courts would say 'they don't have standing'. -Tom

How about if they could start cruising again if the passengers present proof of vaccination? And then after a couple of years, drop that proof requirement if COVID fades away.

They may start of that way, but it will leave a lot of past cruisers ashore, because some of the cruisers won't get vaccinations, and other cruisers want to spend money on a cruise to have a good time without restrictions onboard or ashore, but don't want to feel like they are paying to be part of a medical experiment.

IMHO it is taking the big 3 Cruise lines too long now to recover, and they are going to have to decrease the number of ships in their fleets, and adjust their itineraries to survive. And creditors are now involved with Billions of loaned dollars to the Cruise Lines, and will have a say in the comeback. -Tom

Doesnt say what Carnival will do with the Legend which just had a Med summer cancelled for the 2nd year...

She was suppose to leave Tampa on March 26, 2021 for Barcelona and dry dock and start cruising again from there May 17...coming back to the US in Oct...

In Oct 30 2020 when the new CSO of the CDC came out it included a rule that cruises could not be longer than 7 days so that caused the cancellation of the 15 day TA from Tampa...now the Legend would go to Europe with no passengers...Europe didnt have a policy that limited the length of cruises so the up to 12 day ones were fine...

Now theyre all cancelled for this year ...The Legend’s sister ship, the Pride, has the same itineraries for the following year, 2022...

However the TA for that one is about the same week that the brand new Celebration will have her TA on Nov 6, 2022...Though she might end up coming here without passengers like the Panorama and the Mardi Gras...

The longer cruises like the TAs are very popular...especially with seniors and retirees ...they also work out a whole lot cheaper...a 15 day cruise is cheaper than taking three 5 day cruises B2B...plus you go more places, not just the Bahamas over and over...Nassau every week can get boring...well unless you like the casinos...

Meanwhile, having all my cruises since Feb 2020 cancelled numbering now 19, from booking and rebooking as the goal posts were moved, I only have one little cruise in June left for this whole year...none until March 2022..SOB

(Though I now have a ton of loverly OBC to use on lots of future cruises...WHEN they start again)

I NEED A CRUISE !!!!
