Found her(hound mix) in a rescue shelter 12 years ago. She was appx. 2 years old by the vet when we got her. So she is appx. 14 years old.
Your dog will depart peacefully knowing that you were the best friend and companion she could ever hope for.
I know what you are going thru. Our oldest Lab [14 y/o] is full of cancerous tumors....and we are thankful for every day we still have him.
Winchester will go down as the BEST water dog in the world.
Sorry about that):
Dogs are wonderful friends. I am so sorry you and your dog are going through this.
So very sorry, hugs....
Saw my Dad cry three times in my life...
-When the USA landed on the moon.
-When his mother died.
-When Old Yeller died!
Now when my family gets together there are more dogs than people!
A few years ago is was just starting to think about the time approaching for my old dog, Otis. He was a great dog, Airedale/hound mix. He was going on 17 and while not “sick”, just seemed so tired and sad. He was falling and stumbling a lot. One summer evening he walking around at twilight, and I lost track of him. He drowned in the pond about 75 yards from the house. Luckily we found him, bathed him, and gave him a nice burial.
It was painful, and I had much guilt but after a while I appreciated that he went out in a sort of natural way, on his own without the vet process(he hated his feet touched!).
Anyway you cut it, one does not get the privilege of the love of a dog without paying this price. And it’s totally worth it!!
This is a living decision.
We’ve been there and are with you now.
You’ve given a good life. Rest in this
Im so sorry. Helping a dog die peacefully is the greatest gift we can give them it is our responsibility.
About 13 yrs ago the dog I had was going downhill and so I called our vet who is wonderful and ask her when the time comes could you come to the house and she said of course she will.
That morning when doggy had a rough night and it had come time I called the vet and they said they would be there in a couple hours but then she passed away before the vet even came.
When you call the vet tomorrow ask them if they would be willing to come and help her go peacefully well she said home.
You gave her an awesome Life that she wasn’t getting until you met her. It sucks, but hold on to that for comfort. I have lost many over the years, all rescues. I cried over all of them. However, they got an awesome Life and lots of love. They never feared for food or safety or shelter. I have a lot of land, so most never saw a leash, except for a road trip.
I have a 14 year old rescue now. She is going strong, but I know the day is coming and I will deal with it then. Until then, I just love and spoil her.
I feel for you. Know all of us dog owners are there in spirit with you.
It is hard. We had to make the decision with our 12.5 year old Collie in august. We still miss her...however, she had that “dead look” in her eyes and we had no choice as we knew it was time. Our empathy runs deep...
Don’t be sorry about the vanity. I posted the same thing about 10 years ago with Jake.
I cried over that old huntin’ dog.
5.56mm
So very sorry. I have been a dog lover all of my life, and losing them never gets any easier. :(
Prayers for peace to you and yours. You’re doing the right thing.
My Great Dane died of a sudden heart attack about a week ago. I found him lying, deceased, between the dining room and kitchen after my other dog asked me to let him out. Total shock. At least I didn’t have to make the fatal decision.
It’s hard man.
Feel for you.
My Shorty is 9 but I still see him as a pup even though
I know he’s slowing down.
It’s been my privilege to know several truly great dogs
and been loved by them.
Wouldn’t change that for anything.
My best.
t.
But so much better if you realize how old she is, what her situation is, and you just cuddle her and let her live out her life.
I’m so very sorry. I’ve had to put down two of my furry friends in eight years. Praying for your broken heart.
