I pretty much stopped watching sitcoms in the 90’s.

When they turned sitcoms into men stupid, parents stupid, kids smarter than adults, I stopped watching. I bought the Get Smart box set. Best comedy ever.

RIP. He was great as Julio (with goat Chico, second only to Aunt Esther as nemesis to Fred Sanford).

LOL. I never get tired of Sanford. Gut busting comedy gold.

Rollo died within the last couple years. RIP to them all.

I used to love Fred’s friend Grady on the show. Likeable and coy at the same time.

Fred was SO Racist and it was ironically hysterical! :)

Though he used to Destroy Rollo too. :)

I think the son became a preacher. He seemed like a nice guy

His small part in Papillion as an escaped prisoner with McQueen was great.

Seinfeld or Friends?

That's when I quit watching network sitcoms. I sat down with my beautiful little girl to watch Seinfeld and my favorite sitcoms. The "plot" that night was masturbation. I was so mortified. She was so young she didn't seem to get what they were talking about.

So, we switched to Nickelodeon and started playing dvd's of 60's and 70's sitcoms like Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Andy Griffith, even Hogan's Heroes, which all hold up surprisingly well. IMHO, young children should not be exposed to the swill that seems to populate most network programing. Makes me think of Red Skelton, one of the funniest comedians ever who never used swear words or potty humor.

I’ve seen Papillon about six times, but it’s been a long time. It’s one of my all-time favorites.

Now that you say this, I recognize him, but I never realized it was Julio. Was he the one who got killed by a spiked log or some other jungle trap? Sometime before or after the leper colony?

We used to watch Sanford and Son every week. His death is just another sign or reminder of how the world is changing. Fred Sanford’s character written nowadays wouldn’t be remotely the same.
