I agree Twitter BE GONE!
Agreed. Twitter posts here are usually garbage, but what news source isn’t these days? Even the current favs around here can go dark side at anytime.
My idea, FWIW is to have “Free Republic verifed” Twitter sources. A short list of news sources that have proved their worth. Everything else gets dumped to bloggers or chat. Lot of work though.
This is more directed at the arbitrariness of the admin moderators.
That is very true!!
Such things change daily, sometimes hourly. I doubt very much that JimRob, JohnRob, or the AdminMods are in need of another 24x7 hobby, one is enough.
Not sure what the answer is but I personally hate twitter for reasons besides what they did to Trump.....it is a cesspool of creatures, bots, and foreign entities playing their game..
When things get slow on FR I’ll go pull up a few days of humblegunner’s posts. Good stuff.
HG's never dull. Sometimes cranky, sometimes rude. But never dull.
After all, he's the only Ordained Blogger Overlord.
Oh, there are others. I found a ten year old item online that named four of the blog-bashing “cretins.”
Then they need to post it clearly where everyone can read it.
And then they should all follow the rules equally when removing something.
And I know what a difficult, thankless job it is to be a forum moderator; I’ve been one (elsewhere). You’d think they would realize it would make their job easier if the rules were laid out in writing. Maybe they’re afraid of drawing attention if announced publicly?
Maybe. Maybe not.
I was President of a very small HOA years ago. If I spotted a rules violation I would typically just ignore it. I only acted upon explicit complaints from members.
In the case of a complaint, I had perhaps a hundred or a hundred and fifty pages of founding documents and bylaws to guide me in taking action. Following those documents carefully protected me from personal attacks and disgruntled members had to face the burden of changing the bylaws; not an easy process.
The difference with FreeRepublic would be that the "bylaws" would all be authored by the founders of FR and subject to immediate modification if it suited them. Instead of arguing about whether some moderator's decision was justified or not, people would be arguing over whether the rules were justified or not. They would be different arguments but still there would be arguments.
Another way to look at the situation is that the "bylaws of FreeRepublic" are in the heads of the founders. It is not necessary or useful for us to have them written down because they would still be subject to change at any time. Instead, we must try to predict what the founders will decide in any given case. Any particular decision is subject to change at any time. The difference is that we don't have a membership that must agree on changes. We have founders who have to simply decide that a change is needed.
Not a democracy. Not a republic. More like private property and participation by invitation.
LOL!
And he smokes “Lucky Strikes”
I have friends who are just as up in arms about all this and decry Big Tech’s reach, but...they always send me links to Twitter and YouTube!
Per Jim, Twitter content, unless violative of FR forum rules or copyright restrictions, is allowed. Hope this helps.
For reference.
So was Trump.
No, he left the dem party around the time W Bush got elected
No LS/MFT involved.
I posted a a thread around a week ago about the vote steal coming out of Italy. Signed affidavits from a whistle blower in Serbia. Affidavits came from Sidney Powell’s site. I posted in “Breaking News” got pulled and then I was trashed by “Mariner” for posting. He stated that I was in a fetal position for posting the article in “Breaking News”. This is what Free Republic has become. Same crap comes from others as they are the designated brown shirts of the site.
I joined in ‘06 and this place has become worst than Twitter. Everyone complains about the fake news but every article posted here comes from News streams across the world. One posts anything that may require further “digging” and that post is trashed. Take for example “Humblegunner”. Guys a joke. Runs around policing people that posts from blogs. Again, someone’s point of view gets whacked but posting from CNN is ok.
The hierarchy here is no different than a union shop. Your “join” date for some reason makes one smarter and more relevant than others. I have seen through the years the postings have substantially declined. Debate here has lost some brilliant posters through the infamous Zot. Any long time Freep’s know what I’m saying is true. This place has lost a lot and I mean a lot of great Patriots over the years due to heavy handed moderation.
I originally came here because there were a lot of Patriots in the fight. Now we have a majority throwing in the towel stating it’s over blah, blah, blah.
This place has become a safe zone for conservatives. A place that one can come in, scream into the garbage can, get it off your chest and say I’m doing something. Obviously there are folks here that don’t fit that category but there are a hell of a lot that do.
Everyone is up in arms about Parlor and other platforms that have been delisted. Why? What’s the difference? Parlor is privately owned and someone Zotted his platform because they didn’t like his postings. Kinda like a conservative poster that gets a zot. And I’m not talking trolls.
I was zotted in the 2012 Romney war and asked to come back for this election. Obviously I’m here (probably not long) and restarted my monthly contributions. That was a mistake.
