Worried About Earth’s Future? Well, The Outlook Is Worse Than Even Scientists Can Grasp [for the record: see comment]

...just how bad is the situation? Our new paper shows the outlook for life on Earth is more dire than is generally understood.

The research published today reviews more than 150 studies to produce a stark summary of the state of the natural world...Our paper was authored by 17 leading scientists...

While the problems are too numerous to cover in full here, they include:

Read more: What is a 'mass extinction' and are we in one now?

Essentially, humans have created an ecological Ponzi scheme. Consumption, as a percentage of Earth’s capacity to regenerate itself, has grown from 73% in 1960 to more than 170% today.

High-consuming countries like Australia, Canada and the US use multiple units of fossil-fuel energy to produce one energy unit of food. Energy consumption will therefore increase in the near future, especially as the global middle class grows.

Then there’s climate change. Humanity has already exceeded global warming of 1°C this century, and will almost assuredly exceed 1.5 °C between 2030 and 2052. Even if all nations party to the Paris Agreement ratify their commitments, warming would still reach between 2.6°C and 3.1°C by 2100.

Our paper found global policymaking falls far short of addressing these existential threats. Securing Earth’s future requires prudent, long-term decisions. However this is impeded by short-term interests, and an economic system that concentrates wealth among a few individuals.

Right-wing populist leaders with anti-environment agendas are on the rise, and in many countries, environmental protest groups have been labelled “terrorists”. Environmentalism has become weaponised as a political ideology, rather than properly viewed as a universal mode of self-preservation...

Fundamental change is required to avoid this ghastly future. Specifically, we and many others suggest:

This can be classed with The Book That Incited a Worldwide Fear of Overpopulation ‘The Population Bomb’ made dire predictions—and triggered a wave of repression around the world (see thread)

Smithsonian Magazine ^ | January 2018 | Charles C. Mann

Half the world is now middle class or wealthier Homi Kharas and Kristofer Hamel Thursday, September 27, 2018

For the first time since agriculture-based civilization began 10,000 years ago, the majority of humankind is no longer poor or vulnerable to falling into poverty. By our calculations, as of this month, just over 50 percent of the world’s population, or some 3.8 billion people, live in households with enough discretionary expenditure to be considered “middle class” or “rich.”

  • 1) Extreme poverty has fallen
This is probably the most important chart on this list. The extraordinary rate of economic growth in India and China — as well as slower but still significant growth in other developing countries — has led to a huge decline in the share of the world population living on less than $1.90 a day, from nearly 35 percen…
  • 2) Hunger is falling
This map shows changes to the Global Hunger Index — a measure of undernutrition calculated by the International Food Policy Research Institute— between 2000 and 2017. In countries marked red, hunger has increased. In countries marked orange or tan, it’s decreased, and in countries marked green it’s de…
  • 3) Child labor is on the decline
Any amount of child labor is too much child labor, and the world didn’t meet the International Labor Organization’s goal of eliminating the “worst forms” of child labor by 2016. But the rate of decline— approximately a 40 percent reduction from 2000 to 2016 — is nontrivial and worth celebrating.

The Lancet: World population likely to shrink after mid-century ... www.healthdata.org › news-release › lancet-world-pop... Jul 14, 2020 __________

The real "distinction event" is that which is a result of spiritual and moral degeneration, with the once significantly God (of the Bible) fearing West in particular having increasingly and incrementally forsaken the true God and ran after idols and partaking in the deception that follows, including that of electing proxy servants of the devil and promoting polices that are a perversion of what God ordained.

And thus the rise of justifying everything from atheism to vulgarity and profanity to rebellion to parents and just authority to murder (incld. infants) to theft to lusts to attacking and perverting marriage (and more) are all a result and evidences of America's spiritual decline, and a war against God that has cost immensely in souls, lives and money.

Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? (Luke 12:56)

We are now increasingly seeing the rise of the radical Left, and with Covid-19 serving to condition the masses to endure long-term losses of freedom and expression (silence the facial expression, then the words) and imposition of other restrictions. Which will provide a foundation for imposing even longer restrictions under the premise of combating Climate Change, and which is part of a policy of social change that maligns, attacks and punished those who oppose moral evils as abortion and homosexual realtions.

And which will include China-type tracking and control, and the marking, censorship and punishment of those who expose deception and seek to preserve basic morality and freedoms. Resulting in provoking a certain fringe element of conservatives (mostly libertarians I suspect) or antifa anarchist to violence.

And which the Left will hypocritically use to mark all who will not signify their allegiance to the flag of Sodom (so to speak), etc. as domestic terrorists, and thus be treated as such.

The mandated requirements in order to be members in good standing with the community can easily extended to requiring some sort of indelible mark, which both the rise in tattoos as well as vaccinations (and I am not against all vaccinations) help condition the masses for.

Which scenarios does sound like what end times "rapture" movies (i think this is the best one, if dated) but some scenarios seem more plausible every year (I believe the rapture at the end of the great Trib, with the resurrection of all believers, but if you just use the believing remnant in such movies as representing all believers then it fits with my understanding).

However, this all awaits the rising of a powerful world leader, a demonic alternative to Christ to deceive those who do not want the Truth of the gospel, as they reject contrition and His authority.

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (Revelation 13:8)

He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. (Revelation 13:10-14)

And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (Revelation 13:15-18)

Oh, it is certainly getting worse on earth. The place has gone to hell. It can not support life. All the evidence points in that direction, except a declining global human population. Isn’t that after all the true acid test?

The paper is an exercise in ecological fear-mongering, based on very few facts.

Agriculture had minimal effect on the ecology until roughly 100 years ago.

This is ideological posturing masquerading as "science".

Indeed. A dire crises to justify it is essential.

Give me that extra growing season. Cut my heating bill in winter. Let me grow citrus fruits in my garden. I’ll show everyone what declining vegetation is all about.

Big problem for them. The earth will. Be here sustai ing life for a grunted 1007 more years at the very least, likely much longer.

7 years of tribulation, when .iterally all hell will break loose, then another 1000 years of Christ’s millennial reign.

The world is fine. Were note gonna spontaneously burst into flames for at .east another 1007 years.

But despite that fact, the liars on the left are foisting a global delusion on everyone. Now apparently “food shaming” is the new tool of those who self loathe

One of our instructors was giving us a very detailed description of the symptoms we would suffer from exposure to a Soviet nerve agent.

A Marine Lieutenant raised his hand and asked if he would have time to draw his pistol before he died if he was exposed to this agent.

The instructor told him he wouldn’t be in a position to shoot any enemy.

The Marine said that he meant would he have time to shoot himself.

That’s the nostrum prescribed by our erstwhile elites: genocide on a jaw-dropping scale. Remove 90% of the world population, leaving the rest as slaves, sex toys, living organ farms and ultimately, fertilizer.

And notice that in demonic perversions of morality (as it progresses) then man's sins are not actual moral one's such as murder (of infants over 2k a day in the US) and fornication (at least 25% of women have one or more) and homosexual relations (over 80% of HIV transmissions among men, with over 700,000 deaths), not profanity, etc. but eating meat, driving an internal combustion car, wearing fur, etc.

I can smell the fresh ‘research grant’ application through my computer.
The real problem, that must not be stated is ‘turd world’ scumbags are trashing the air & oceans but we cannot blame them because only white people can be blamed in western societies today.
Europe & North America are the cleanest land masses on the planet(okay Antarctica, but no one lives there) with 90% of the crap(real crap too) in the ocean coming from Asia and Africa.
That said there is no shortage of humans...
