'This one is not THAT good' Aunt Dai offers a mix of authentic and North American Chinese food. And Fei tries to be very clear about what's what.
"Don't let the name fool you, this one is NOT authentic Chinese food," he warns patrons of his Hēi Jiāo, a.k.a. black pepper stir fry. "True story, one customer got really mad because it's not so Chinese since he visited Sichuan China before."
But that doesn't mean Fei only likes the traditional fare. After some cajoling from his customers, he added General Tao chicken to the menu, with the following description:
"I am no expert on North American Chinese food but I like our General Tao a lot, a lot more than what I would have thought."
Feigang Fei recommends against the orange beef at Aunt Dai. (auntdai.com) He told As It Happens that he'd never tasted General Tao until they put it on the menu.
"Even today, nobody in China has heard of that dish at all," he said. "But after I [tried] it, it's really good."
The orange beef, though? That one's skippable.

I had so many disappointing meals when I spent time in Montreal.
The best food was at McDonalds where the Egg McMuffins were only made with real butter and the English muffins were toasted perfectly.
Other good meals were at the hotel restaurant, one where Americans tended to stay.
I had a good, but very expensive, grouper meal in downtown Montreal.
All the mom and pop, buffets, and other fast food were not worth the money. And poutine is just a bunch of tasteless French fries with gravy.
The whole freakin’ extended city is basically cooking up the taste of boiled potatoes for every food, including desserts. Even the donuts were no better than “fair.”
Chef: It’s not orange and it’s not chicken!
Gotta admire their honesty, at least!
Just imagine how it would be if more businessmen and -women "put their cards on the table?"
"Somewhat palatable burgers and so-so fries - Over 30 billion served, only an occasional upset stomach!"
"Kinda nice-looking running shoes that won't start falling apart until after the first good rain! And we pay our Chinese factory workers a bonus on their 12th birthday!"
"A perfectly adequate lay, and you probably won't get more than a minor venereal disease!"
"A man you can trust in the White House - to almost always do what his 'minders' tell him to do!"

There are great places in Quebec and Ontario, even BC and Alberta
Hey, how many times do people ask “what do you recommend?
I've always wanted to try the taste of grouper.
They are such ugly-looking fish, though, and their mouths are so big!
Regards,
Well, he’s wearing it!
Grouper? Expensive in Canada?
You got ripped.
Customer:That was a lot better than I thought it would be. My compliments to the chef!
This guy: You can’t be serious. Well, if you liked it, who am I to argue?
Their bacon sucks, it ain’t even decent ham.
Lol
Pacific/Cold water Grouper are great tasting.
What is grouper fish taste like?
This type of fish has a very mild flavor (somewhere in between seabass and halibut) with a light, sweet taste and large, chunky flakes, almost like lobster or crab. Thanks to its subtle flavor that easily absorbs dressings and marinades, grouper is excellent however you serve it.May 3, 2020.
We try to buy it from mongers on the coast. We have one good local fish monger here. Now, grouper is one of the most expensive fish.
I used to charcoal/grill it with olive oil spray and a drizzle of lemon on the top and bottom. Our sons at first wanted it fried, and they made sandwiches with French bread. Then they basically wanted it grilled and learned how to do it.
I had the opposite experience in Montreal. I liked it when the wait staff pretended not to know a word of English, I would point to an item on the menu that seemed like a word I could figure out, said “see vooplay”. Every time the meal was good. I would say “mare see” and it was all good 👍.
What’s General Tao chicken? Is that a Canadian name for General Tso’s chicken?
No.
They call that “wanker”.
We try to buy it from mongers on the coast.
that is the way to do it all over the world., get there when the boat comes in...
LOL LOL
I think you meant Mare Sea LOL
