-- Frank Zappe, Freak Out - "It Can't Happen Here"
If you have to ask what I’m referring to, you haven’t been paying attention. :-)
Facebook has just banned #WalkAway
Although “For What It’s Worth” is often considered an anti-war song, Stephen Stills was inspired to write the song because of the Sunset Strip curfew riots in November 1966—a series of early counterculture -era clashes that took place between police and young people on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California, beginning in mid-1966, the same year Buffalo Springfield had become the house band at the Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip.
This song must be listened to using headphones.
The tables have been completely turned, and even Frank realized this in the 80s and 90s, well after he wrote this song. He knew that McCarthyism would go full circle and the patriots would get it 1000X worse.
If anyone wants to know how this plays out, just look up the old time radio show called “I Was a Communist For The FBI”. Almost all of the episodes are extremely prescient, and very scary, considering that it’s becoming real now, from the highest level of government.
I see things getting very weird, very soon after January 20th. These nutcases are the apparently creating a new Stassi.
I may be just emotional due to the current issues we see, but damn, if it sure doesn’t feel warranted with the New Pravda and Thought Police running America now.
I sure hope there’s a way we can fix it and get back our Constitutional Republic that respects all American’s freedom. Wish us all luck.
I remember. I was only mid-teens, but I read/heard about it at the time, and later covering it in my various bands... "For What It's Worth" has always had a deep personal connection.
... in a darkened room, black-light optional but highly recommended.
TV dinner by the pool I’m so glad I finished school
Life is just a bowl of cherries run from city hall.
Susy? Susy Creamcheese?
Only 13 and she knows how to nasty, nasty nasty nasty.
And so my love I offer you a love that is strong
a prune that is true.
In that magic go cart I bite your neck...
sitting down to rock out right now. Zappa is still the greatest.
.
Time for the sane people in America to take their country back ?
.
Second that emotion.
Well they’ve certainly installed The Central Scutinizer at Twitter and Facebook.
Just wished he didn’t hate Reagan and Conservatives so much.
That guitar pinging intro hooks the listener immediately.
I have heard even rappers using it.
It’s pensive and full of unresolved tension. That last note is allowed to resonate alone.
The gravelly, shopworn vocal is a good match.
The song would not have worked as well had somebody like Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys sang it with his smooth gentle tenor.
Everything Zappa did was carefully planned and executed precisely.
“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it’s profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”
― Frank Zappa
