I remember. I was only mid-teens, but I read/heard about it at the time, and later covering it in my various bands... "For What It's Worth" has always had a deep personal connection.
That guitar pinging intro hooks the listener immediately.

It’s pensive and full of unresolved tension. That last note is allowed to resonate alone.
The gravelly, shopworn vocal is a good match.
The song would not have worked as well had somebody like Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys sang it with his smooth gentle tenor.
