Gerry Marsden, frontman of the Merseybeat band Gerry and the Pacemakers has sadly passed away at the age of 78.

We're honoured that Gerry and the band are part of the Abbey Road story, having recorded much of their material at the studios, including their first session in 1963. Image 7:00 AM · Jan 4, 2021

===================================================================

Liverpool legend Gerry Marsden, lead singer of Gerry and the Pacemakers has died.

He was 78.

His family confirmed his death was unrelated to Covid, and his friend Pete Price said the rocker died after a short illness related to a heart infection. Paul McCartney and others have honored the musician’s legacy.

“Gerry was a mate from our early days in Liverpool. He and his group were our biggest rivals on the local scene. His unforgettable performances of You’ll Never Walk Alone and Ferry Cross the Mersey remain in many people’s hearts as reminders of a joyful time in British music…”

It’s been said that if there is ever a nuclear war, the only things that will survive will be cockroaches and Keith Richards.

If the ferry in question is headed eastbound toward Liverpool, it sailed from Birkenhead, where the Confederate raider CSS Alabama was built.

I made my own crossing of the Mersey River from Birkenhead to Liverpool in 1966, only it was by way of a bridge.

Sad...

But I won’t cry until after dark, because...

Guess?

Listening again, I really only care for these two, at least of those I’ve just now sampled ...

I root for Everton, but You’ll Never Walk Alone at Anfield is one of the greatest things in sports.

I saw Gerry and the Pacemakers LIVE in Rochester, NY early in their career. I think it was their first trip “across the pond”.

I’ll never forget how he dissed the crowd by acting like a total ass and having to ask “where the hell are we?”.

As if to say, what podunk colony town are we in?

Performance was okay I guess, but the mood had been destroyed.

Why is it that we only ever mourn the deaths of athletes, entertainers, and politicians?

Because most everyone knows them. A common thread. If I told ya Sammy Hogjaw from Hacksaw Arkansas died, would you mourn his death?

And the deaths just keep on coming. We lost the good looking girl from Gilligan's Island; Tanya Roberts, the actress who played multiple roles; Paul Westphal the somewhat tall basketball player; Phil Niekro the knuckleball thrower; Alto Reed from Silver Bullet Band (who played the sax part on "Turn The Page"; that one guy who played bass for the band whose name I can't remember right now; that game show host; another movie star whose name I can't remember; and now this, one of the great early Brit-Pop stars from the British Invasion of the 1960s.

When will the madness end?

Not if he was a Democrat.

Ferry Cross The Mersey was a beautiful ballad about the love for one’s home.

Quite a departure from today’s rap blather.

Neither do I mourn the death of Gerry and his pacemaker.

Ya said, "We", so I assumed that included you. Try to be more specific.
