Heart - "Crazy On You" (1976)

"Crazy on You" is a song by American rock band Heart from their debut studio album, Dreamboat Annie (1975). It was released in March 1976.

Heart lead singer Ann Wilson wrote the lyrics.

The song opens with the acoustic guitar stylings of Nancy Wilson, Ann's sister and bandmate. She plays for 45 seconds before Roger Fisher's electric guitar blasts in.

Nancy recalled how the instrumentation was inspired by a classic Moody Blues tune.

"I remember I had a bad flu and was kind of delirious," she said. "The lyric was so great that it kind of lifted me up in my sick bed. Two days later I was better, and we started to set it to music. We were listening to a lot of Moody Blues back then. There was a song called Question that had this fast, fiery guitar rhythm. That was our idea for the groove. Then Roger Fisher came up with the really cool riff over A-minor to F, and that gave it some more beautiful momentum."

Heart Fans:

While it’s not the real band but a very good tribute band called Barracuda, the real Roger Fisher does show up and play with them for the last half or so. This is raw video from a small concert just 3 years ago:

Not to detract from the Wilson sisters unquestionable talent, but this band nails the authentic Heart sound, and of course Roger is right at home. It takes a lot of guts and a good set of pipes to cover Ann Wilson’s vocals but the lead singer is incredible, so authentic to Ann’s voice and phrasing you can almost forget it’s not her. And Roger just proves that once a rock star, always a rock star!

Hope someone else enjoys this as it’s one of my best accidental YouTube finds.

The song is a classic. I really like it.

And my favorite rock n' roll band is The Moody Blues where Ann's sister, Nancy, got the guitar rhythm riff for the beginning of Crazy On You from Justin Hayward's Question.

Thanks for posting.

“Good song for girl power (I have 3 daughters).”

So how does this lyric from the song empower girls?

I was a willow last night in my dream
I bent down over a clear running stream
Sang you the song that I heard up above
And you kept me alive with your sweet flowing love

“Ann Wilson, greatest female singer in all of rock and roll.”

Don’t wish to be contentious, but the greatest female singer in all of rock and roll is Grace Slick.

Janis is blues/Americana.

But I like Heart OK.

One of my favorite rock songs. I even like Heart’s 80s work when they went power ballads. Just an amazing band.

I thought they were from Canada.

Roger Fisher's brother got an invitation from the government to tour Vietnam, but he decided to go to Canada instead. The band spent a lot of time there because that.

I still remember reading an interview back in the 70s or maybe 80s where Ann said she married her first husband because he was the first guy that ever gave her flowers. For the record, my favorite Heart Song: Dog and Butterfly.

I always hated this song.

That's why there's chocolate, vanilla, and butter pecan.

That said, my favorite Heart songs are probably "Never" and "Nothing at All".

Recently this song came to my mind due to the lyrics “what you gonna do when everybody’s insane?” That’s how I feel aboout this kungflu virus and how it brought down Trump.

It needs modern mastering, but wow, what guitar and what a voice.

You just reminded me that of all the guitarists who never seem to get the recognition they deserve, Justin Hayward is probably at the top of the list.

I agree.

The guy is gifted. He is also a great songwriter, as well as, a great guitar player.

Most people don't know that Justin Hayward wrote one of The Moody Blues all-time great signature songs, "Knights in White Satin" when he was only 19 years old.

Amazing talent.

And who could forget her cameo in Fast Times At Ridgemont High, just as Brad discovers why she's laughing at him?
