Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Wildlife officials in Utah said a 11-year-old boy landed a massive 48-pound trout just six months after reeling in a 41-pound trout.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said Tyler Grimshaw drew attention online in June when the then-10-year-old reeled in a 41-pound trout without any assistance at Flaming Gorge.

Grimshaw, now 11, bested his own catch this month by reeling in a 48-pound trout in the same area.

Both fish were released back into the lake.

"Way to go, Tyler," the division tweeted.

The Utah state record for lake trout stands at 53 pounds, 15 ounces. The record was set by Chance Scott at the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, the same place Grimshaw caught both of his fish.

When trout get that big you can easily see their salmon ancestry.

My brother is a big lake trout fishing fan in the Finger Lakes of NY. Hasn’t caught one that big yet. He cooked some up one time but I was kind of disappointed in the taste. Kind of bland. I tend to like smaller fish for taste.

Needless to say, the big fish was accidentally blasted by a shotgun wielding Perkins.

I’m wondering what’s in that lake............................

Shouldn't he be wearing a tin-foil hat or something? You know, for protection.

Lake Trout are an invasive species in Utah in that they are not native to the state’s waters. I wonder- what native species are they displacing? Or were there no top predator species there?

“You could eat that fish for a week or more!..................”

As big and old as it must be, who knows how it will taste. Personally I’d release it, didn’t read far enough along if they did. Really, stuff it and hand it on the wall? Kinaa sad IMO.
