Well, it definitely appears to be meat of some sort.
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas on Thursday tweeted a photo of his family's holiday meal with the caption, "Brisket family tradition."
As Cornyn is the senior senator from Texas, it's no surprise that the tweet set off a big reaction. Brisket's big business in this state, and the meat seen in Cornyn's photo looks a far cry from the kind you'd find in the pit at spots like Franklin and Snow's.
For one thing, Cornyn's looks pretty dry. For another, the red stuff on the top — barbecue sauce, you'd imagine — has a color and texture that looks like spaghetti sauce left out too long.

I don’t know anything about brisket; but I know that food is very difficult to photograph. There are stylists and photographers who specialize in it, and most professional photos of food that you see are highly doctored to make them come out looking anything like the real thing.
nothing wrong with that
LORD HAVE MERCY WHAT happened to that Brisket ?!?!?

We Texans are battling enough without people thinking we can’t tell brisket from dog bones w marinara on top
Must be a slow night for news. If the Cornyn’s want to eat their brisket with that sauce on it, that is THEIR business. Wow....
He should fire his illegal Mexican live in for serving up that slop. John, have her mow the lawn before she goes.
Upon a closer look with My Glasses that is RIBS,NOT A BRISKET
I agree! WTF?
Written by someone who has never encountered a tomato-based BBQ sauce, apparently.
Well, Cornyn did caption it with “Brisket family tradition”. We’ve been in Texas for a bit over two years, and I’ve never seen brisket other than without sauce or BBQ sauce. Very strange.
Well, you know what? 80 million Americans voted this the best brisket they’d ever seen.
But your point is well taken...:)
If it needs sauce, it’s not real Texas BBQ Brisket.
Cornyn shows his a** again. He’s not a Texan.
i watched the north koreans eating BBQ for the first time from the thread last night
looked a lot better than John’s mess.
he blamed it on his wife...said it is her family recipe
best he has ever eaten
It’s beyond disgusting. It looks like Cornyn put spaghetti sauce on whatever form of meat it is.
That ain’t no brisket. Looks more like ribs. Never saw a brisket with bones in it.
Kind of a small serving.
