Gal Gadot has defended her casting as Cleopatra after she was met with accusations of “whitewashing” the upcoming biopic.
Critics have said that an Arab or African actress should play the role of the iconic Egyptian leader instead of the 35-year-old Israeli actress.
“First of all, if you want to be true to the facts, then Cleopatra was Macedonian,” Gadot told BBC Arabic. “We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn’t there. And I was very passionate about Cleopatra.”

In reference to your #15, I’ve been saying that for years.
Who should play Hamilton
Wow! Why did you have to take this class? Did you lose a bet? Merry Christmas.
Then there is only one real solution. Stop it
I cancelled them a while back. They should become familiar with the new mantra, “SCREW YOU”!
What university?
Gal Gadot is standing up to the bullying and is even mocking the ignoramuses on the other side. She seems to be a typical Hollywood liberal on many issues. Whether that’s from real conviction or just go-along to get-along career building, I don’t know, but she’s steadfast about being Israeli, Jewish and an IDF vet. She may have more grit than most Hollywood types. She may even have learning potential, and she’s far enough along in her career that she doesn’t need to kowtow to anyone. Maybe someone like Dennis Prager or Dave Rubin should get in touch and explore common ground.
We can bring cancel culture to Hollywood
Personally I think Ms. Gadot is a fine actress and a beautiful woman. I wouldn't mind seeing her in any role. ;-)
Indeed. Much ado about nothing.
Same here. If she simply wants to read the phone book out loud that's fine with me.
I was getting another masters degree, and it was MANDATORY. No choice in the matter. It’s nothing but forced propaganda of the worst sort.
Gal Galdo is fine actress and she will make a fine Cleopatra too.
Threads about beautiful women ALWAYS get a pic.
In his defense, it's almost impossible to get orcs to remember their lines.
Never saw it. Have never seen any of the "Annie" productions? Was it a musical? When I was little, I enjoyed the Rogers & Hammerstein broadway shows they turned into movies. I've got most of the soundtracks from them. I also liked the 1961 movie version of "West Side Story," and the 1973 movie version of "Jesus Christ Superstar," and still listen to the soundtracks of both from time to time. The last musical I saw in the theaters was "Phantom of the Opera." I hadn't ever seen the show, or heard the music until then. A friend had tickets to see it, and asked me if I wanted to go with her. I enjoyed it, but don't follow the stuff they produce today. Never saw "Grease," "Mama Mia," etc. Had no desire to.
