China apparently facing food shortages, introduces bill to regulate overeating

China’s high tech surveillance state will be watching how much people eat, according to provisions of a bill just introduced and sure to pass its rubber stamp National People’s Congress legislative body. Writing at Breitbart, Frances Martel is appropriately skeptical about the repeated official denials that food shortages have anything to do with the state’ss intusion into the most intimate details of life for its citizens.

China’s communist rubber-stamp legislature, the National People’s Congress (NPC), introduced a bill Tuesday that would mandate a government war against “food waste” that includes ordering guests at weddings and other public events to eat less.

The bill also demands regulation of online videos showing people, particularly young women, binge eating — an increasingly popular trend on Chinese social media.

It may be hard for Americans to understand the role of food and public eating in the Chinese mind. Banquets are a major way to demonstrate conspicuous consumption and people think and talk about food a lot more than most Westerners. One common greeting when meeting someone on the street is, “Have you eaten?”

Martel presents a number of examples of official denials of a problem that convince me that there really is a problem.

China’s dictatorial system looks strong from the outside, and appeals to people like Tom Friedman as efficient and capable of achieving great things. But what Friedman and many American elites miss is the level of dissatisfaction among those not sharing in the benefits of industrialization, while paying its costs in crowding, pollution, and high-handed officialdom. China’s focus on surveillance and state control of personal behavior demonstrates the inherent weakness of a top-down, corrupt system of governance.

“Indian doctors who spoke to The Taiwan Times were of the general opinion that Chinese youth will suffer mental health problems in the case that food shortages persist.”

Also if they don’t. Such are youth these days

There is a scene in a movie where Mel Gibson says ‘Man I LOVE beating up chinks! Problem is after an hour you just want to do it all over again’

“China wants America’s land.”

And Biden will hand it over — if he hasn’t already. They’ve owned him for a long time.

Xi is trying to be the new Mao. You can’t rule with an iron fist of people are happy. They need to create a crisis in order to get the right level of fear to control the people. It’s an age old technique.

China could be a world wide exporter of food if they wanted to. They choose not to.

Meanwhile, China has been showing the world that social distancing is over because they beat Covid with their superior technology.

They are also experiencing electricity shortages with blackouts and brownouts in urban areas. In centrally planned economies urban areas are given prime consideration for all resources. Their central bank has squandered huge amounts of capital on projects that have squandered the resources and have produced no return on investment. They have spent huge amounts on their military. Its formadible but it sits idle and much of the equipment is outmoded.

China has much inherent weakness. Very much doubt that they are in position to actually fight a determined enemy. There will be no invasion of Taiwan and they will do all they can to get what they can in the form of goods, technology and compliance from America. Biden is their guy.

Of course, they have bought up most of our highly centralized meat processors and lots of land—and they reportedly have plans to not only take over our country for food production, but also for nonpolluted land, ready built, to live on.

The Chinese already own a good portion of it. American land sold to China for profit to corrupt politicians. *spit*

That’s a slippery slope. It may make sense but when you start regulating where does it end. Who decides what is a “healthy” BMI. Maybe less than 17%=while certain governors roll around in their obese bodies eating what the want?

Gotta say though, a trip to WM on any given day reveals the ugly truth, that a ‘mild’ foot shortage in the U.S. might not be a bad thing. Good grief, we are a nation of FATTIES!

I alone could stand to lose 20 lbs.

I also hate seeing food wasted.

Like as with gov. shutdowns which should include the salaries of the pols being suspended, so any such penalizing of overeating should include the top. When food gets tight and the gov. rations food, the gov. could test people for their BMI and regulate what they can buy, since the gov. likes to regulate and control. However, some people do have a problems that are not due to overeating.

but since over 70% of America is overweight or obese, and which condition is a primary comorbidity in Covid-assigned deaths, then it makes more sense than requires masking about everywhere and shelter-in-place restrictions.

These people are everywhere:
