Prolly an overlooked FQD somewhere within source code.
I hovered over the forum link from the main page and got:
https://freerepublic.com/tag/*/index
I suggest providing additional details and include John.

The site in general is secure, but some embedded pictures are not.

The browser extension by the EFF called "HTTPS Everywhere" will try to establish a secure https connection when it encounters a plain "http://" url. You might want to try that extension.
Another possibility is that your browser has cached a stale certificate.

Yep, that has always been a problem. Depending on browser and settings, embeds to external sources can do that no matter how secure the primary site is. I have to deal with it on mine all the time. I am about to block certain site embeds because they are indeed serious hidden security issues for member’s browsers.

Thanks for bringing this up, I have that problem in spades.
I have four devices I can access Free Republic on, from my lap-top to my notebook to my tablet and smart-phone.
Some months ago the old laptop began telling me Free Republic is unsecure.
Last week it blocked Free Republic entirely.
That’s on Microsoft Edge & Internet Explorer.
The other three devices still work fine, so the problem must be in my software.
So far have not taken the time to call Microsoft service & straighten out, just hoping it will “cure” itself as mysteriously as it happened in the first place.
Any ideas?
