The Milky Way is probably full of dead civilizations

Most of the alien civilizations that ever dotted our galaxy have probably killed themselves off already.

That's the takeaway of a new study, published Dec. 14 to the arXiv database, which used modern astronomy and statistical modeling to map the emergence and death of intelligent life in time and space across the Milky Way.

I dont mean consciousness at all. The stuff of life is elements heavier than hydrogen. They are forged in the hearts of suns and in the explosions which some suns end in.

We are made of star poop except for the hydrogen in our water. Star poop is the “Stuff of life.” Every element other then hydrogen is essentially star poop.

You are waxing philosophical. I am not. A universe with no life is still a universe, meaningless or not.

Light exists if seen or not assuming the rules of the lifeless universe runs by rules with photons. It would not require life to exist. Life on the other hand requires a universe that is hospitable.

An ordered universe hospitable to consciousness-producing life... What are the odds of that I wonder?

“...authored by three Caltech physicists and one high school student”...The HS student was probably lead on this nonsense...

Project much, guys? Presuming unknown races, if any exist or ever did, all must possess the same undesirable traits we humans do?

Perhaps many advanced civilizations (tend to) advance spiritually and morally as well as technologically, and have conquered or controlled their base animal natures, and avoided destruction...

An objective view of our own human race shows (despite individuals, but as a race) we’ve made progress in the right direction...No way to know and any bets are no better than even money...For all we know we may be “the Ancients” and the first...Makes life here all the more precious, eh?

A certainty if this is to be believed. It is a bit of a thought exercise for you.

I follow these ideas pretty closely. My conclusion is that since quantum mechanics theoretical physics has become more philosophy than science. I watched your video. I have seen many similar. I always come away from most feeling like I have just watched a magic show. There may be a limit to how much three dimensional creatures can comprehend. Knowing that quantum entanglement is real is different from understanding how it works.

Oh... and I do get your point. In infinite universes an infinite number will have the exact conditions needed for life.

Understand how quantum entanglement really works and you will have the grand unified theory. It is like gravity. We can describe it. We can predict it. We have no frigging idea what it really is.

Pretty huge leap for an example of exactly one so far known to science.

Using the same standard, I say the civilizations aren’t dead but fall into a virtual reality hole. Once any race with intelligence advances far enough so they can simulate reality perfectly, they then invariably just disappear into some electronic nirvana in the virtual reality generators. I extrapolated this important theory based on observed behavior of humans using cell phones in 2020.

Yup. Humans have been on this planet at least half a million years. It took us only ten thousand to go from hunter gathers to walking on the moon.🤔

Yep.

Maybe they avoid us because we disgust them. Being made of meat and all. :)

Newtonian physics was not wrong it was just somewhat limited.

Thanks - I’m not an expert, but that reinforces the point...this analysis is limited limited at best.

and all the assumptions use humans as the model for the behavior of the civilizations. What if the civilizations does not have concepts that we have. things like family or the concept of free choice. what if there is a concept they have that we don't have.

Water and hydrocarbons can be mined from comets and moons of gas giants as for women those are getting to be hard to find on earth at least the natural born ones.🙄
