The Milky Way is probably full of dead civilizations

Most of the alien civilizations that ever dotted our galaxy have probably killed themselves off already.

That's the takeaway of a new study, published Dec. 14 to the arXiv database, which used modern astronomy and statistical modeling to map the emergence and death of intelligent life in time and space across the Milky Way.

”Without biological imperatives why bother?”

I don’t see a need for a biological imperative. A programmed imperative would suffice. If i supplied you with a machine capable of reproducing itself multiple times with no human intervention, I suggest that you put a stop to its activities as soon as possible.

Are viruses endowed with a biological imperative? Mankind is now scary close to being able to create a virus. Why do viruses reproduce? Is it simply because they can and only such viruses can exist?

“A former Israeli space security chief has sent eyebrows shooting heavenward by saying that earthlings have been in contact with extraterrestrials from a “galactic federation.”

“The Unidentified Flying Objects have asked not to publish that they are here, humanity is not ready yet,” Haim Eshed, former head of Israel’s Defense Ministry’s space directorate, told Israel’s Yediot Aharonot newspaper.”

"This is not science."
No, it's based on observation of our own civilization's cultural tendencies. There never has been a "peaceful" society, and probably all technologically advanced civilizations arose through more or less the same processes as ours.

It is pure speculation, based on numerous assumptions.

You just described 80% of all cosmology...

Fermi’s paradox...

“In 1950, at Los Alamos, a scientist was talking with his friends
And the conversation had them all fully engrossed
About this universe that almost has no ends
And as they were all about to return to their study
Enrico suddenly shouted “Where is everybody?”
And he worked out a few simple calculations
That indicated we should have been visited thousands of times”

Viruses do have the biological imperative. It isn’t consciousness, in fact does not even need a single neuron. All life has the biological imperative, even prions... if viruses and prions can even be called life. They have the biological imperative. AI as in consciousness, as in the singularity where AI exceeds all human brain power has no biological imperative. We are stupid and arrogant to think we could provide programming or influence such an entity. Evolution is very different than self improvement. Would an AI even strive for self improvement or would it sit and navel gaze? Would it go find God, the only imperative I can conceive of it having?

When you say “stuff of life” I have to assume that you mean consciousness. I win.Try to imagine a universe without life. This will take a minute to get your head around such a concept. No eyes to see its planets or suns... Suns that radiate light without thought or awareness. Useless, useless. Such a universe can’t exist without awareness of its existence.... Logos must come first.
