Some improve with a strict diet of just meat and vegetables (no carbs, sugars or fruits).

• Dietary linoleic acid may be implicated in ulcerative colitis, according to the results of a nested case–control study within a prospective cohort study (Gut. 2009;Published online July 23).....”Dietary linoleic acid, an n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid, is metabolized to arachidonic acid, a component of colonocyte membranes.” ....”Metabolites of arachidonic acid have pro-inflammatory properties and are increased in the mucosa of patients with ulcerative colitis......”the highest intake of the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexanoic acid, which is found in salmon and herring, was associated with a 77% decrease in risk of developing ulcerative colitis.

Probiotics: A mixture of eight probiotic lactic acid bacterial species (VSL#3 @ two sachets BID x 6wks) (VSL Pharmaceuticals, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) reduces sx’s in 80% of pt’s with acute ulcerative colitis refractory to conventional tx (Am J Gastroenterol 2005;100:1539-1546). Synbiotic therapy (PO BID x 1mo) is effective for UC (Gut. 2005;54:242-249) (combining the probiotic Bifidobacterium longum and the prebiotic Synergy 1, a preferential inulinoligofructose growth substrate for the probiotic strain).

i would suspect the BRAT diet might help

https://www.oregonclinic.com/diets-BRAT

i would also look at getting very high count, quality probiotics, and digestice enzymes

and avoid any unnecessary inflammatory things, including vaccines, as this is regarded as an autoimmune inflammatory disease

dont have it but often see the words in things I am researching to use for Covid 19. Perhaps due to inflammation.

Green tea is one.

So look into Green Tea EGCG

also pretty sure I saw it when looking at Greek Mountain Tea for Alzheimer’s so you might look at that too.

A lot of foods associated with the Mediterranean diet help with it. I was diagnosed when I was in college back in the 90’s. The best thing that helped me was staying away from fried foods and eating an almost vegetarian diet. Also, try to get in some exercise such as walking or riding a bike. That helped me too. Hope this helps.

For me, I have a mild case, not always symptomatic so not on meds for it, but it helps if I stay away from foods that also tend to cause me to have GERD episodes- chocolate. spaghetti sauce, onions, spicy/hot. YMMV, Doesn’t always work though.

I had it over 20 years ago. It turned out to be stage 1 for myeloma for me.

As far as food, don’t depend on other’s recommendations. You should keep a food diary and if some food makes your symptoms worse. then note that fact in your diary and remove that food from your diet forever. Early on test the impact gluten might have on your symptoms. Gluten caused flare ups for me and I have heard others with UC have had gluten problems.

Good luck.

UC. Colitis. IBS. Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Avoid foods that skate through the digestive plumbing. Find foods that heal the digestive plumbing, such as:

Resveratrol vitamin, soda crackers and Ensure. Yes, some IBS patients live in Ensure alone for four weeks.

Pray and trust the Lord to quietly show you the foods and vitamins that you need.

Inflammation is triggered by bad foods and stress and getting a puppy or kitty decreases stress.

Just had a memory of a story about my mother’s mother, who got it,

She cured herself with homemade baby food run through a colander.

Kefir every day. We make our own, just find some grains and add milk. Kefir has way more probiotics than yogurt. I think the old kefir.net site is still up. Tons of info.

It can be very hard to find good information, and a really fantastic resource would be to find out if there’s a local chapter for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. Here’s a link to see if there’s a local chapter. https://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/local-resources . Having people you can talk to, discussing what works and doesn’t, medications that seem to work, food to eat or avoid but most important, the names of doctors and how they are. My local chapter helped me find both my gastro dr and my surgeon, both of whom are really amazing.

Something else to be aware of is that the inflammation caused by colitis or Crohn’s dramatically increases your chances of getting colon cancer. Typically, most people don’t get a colonoscopy until their 50 years old. My mother had ulcerative colitis, and was diagnosed with colon cancer at 47 and died of it at 49. So be aware of it, and don’t worry about colonoscopies. The worst part of it is the “prep,” and you want to be camped out by your bathroom, but it only lasts a couple of hours. Then, you get amazing drugs during the procedure, and it will be fine.

While my mother had UC, I have Crohn’s disease, and had a colostomy in 2010, but it kept getting worse and in 2013 it was reversed and I needed a procto-colectomy with an ileostomy, in other words, my entire colon (large intestine) and rectum needed to be removed. Most people never need that level of surgery, but if you have questions, I might be able to answer them.

Mark

Saccharomyces Boulardii probiotic and get a good Gastro doctor (in a sea of bad ones) to get you on a good biologic like Entyvio. Do not play around with “miracle” diets.

The biologic saved my life. (Remicade) I am now in remission going on 4 years.

Microscopic colitis. Get tested for it.
if you have upper problems, get tested for Heliobactor Pylori.

These are the underlying causes that a lot of patent (quack) medicines treat (instead of cure).

I had been suffering from colitis since I was 10 years old. In 2013, I read the book “Wheat Belly” by Dr. William Davis... when I was 56 years old. In the course of 11 months, I lost 60 pounds and did not experience one episode of loose stools, cramps, etc. I had weighed 230 pounds... down to 170 and size 32 pants. My energy level was off the charts.

At the end of those 11 months, I was snorkeling off a beach in Hawaii and “heard” my heart experiencing an a-fib moment. Upon returning back to Georgia, I saw my GP who sent me directly to the Emergency Room. I had a a triple bypass 3 days later.

The heart surgeon told me, that had I not detected the abnormality, I would have stroked out at any moment. The blockages were THAT bad. While I was in the cardiac ICU, I was eating bacon and eggs. The surgeon didn’t agree with my eating lifestyle, but he couldn’t argue with the results.

“Wheat Belly” is the total elimination of grains and sugar. What the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association have been feeding the public is pure horsecrap. Grains were meant for animals. The human stomach was not designed to digest wheat, oats, barley, etc... no matter how good they taste. Ancient man survived on animal meat, fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc. It was not until the “advancement” of agriculture and the rise of cities that man started eating grains. Evidence of bone and tooth decay didn’t start until man became “civilized.

Wheat Belly is eating high fat, low carb and moderate protein.... and the elimination of artificial ingredients, starches, sugars, processed foods. It may sound difficult, but once you break the sugar/grain addiction... you start to heal your body. Grains will do to your internal digestive system as what sandpaper would do to your car’s paint job. It’ll eat away the wax, the paint, the metal... until the rust appears.

The good thing, is that when you eliminate the harmful foods, your body will heal itself.

Buy the book. It will save your life.

My son makes Entivio. He works on the production floor. I heard it’s expensive but works very well. You can check if your insurance covers it.

This may be worth a try. Everyone’s different, but many have had UC had their symptoms reduced or cleared by the starch-based plant diet approach (Dr John McDougall, Santa Rosa CA), i.e. starch (rice, oats, sweet potato, corn etc) so you don’t go hungry, and lots of cooked or raw veg greens, plus some fruits. Try for 30-days, leaving out the meats, oil, dairy, cheese, and cholesteral laden foods.

I had UC decades ago. Signs of prior UC scarring or polyps never completely cleared until I switched to this nutritional approach. A few years after the dietary change, there were zero signs of prior UC, just a shiny smooth colon.

A simplistic explanation is that the body’s autoimmune attacks your own cells that look like foreign cells, i.e. meat proteins. It seems less likely the body would attack the intestinal linings with invading plant cells in your diet! My gastro doc agreed the diet could be causative — but only after 20 years of denying diet had any effect (they’d lose business!). But he didn’t like my explanation, not do they teach nutrition vs UC in med school — preferring expensive pills and surgery.

The plant diet is also good for improving one’s health and resistance to the common American diseases.
