Some may find out that their actual minimum wage could be 0.
The bookselling business is pretty much over because of Amazon/China.
The fact that this one is still in business is a miracle.
But they won’t be for long.
The true minimum wage is zero.
The union organizer is about to find that out when her employer closes up shop.
After librarians, bookstore workers are the biggest leftist jerks.
I’m sorry, but talk about stupid. Bookstores, especially independent bookstores are barely surviving as it is even without the Wuhan. Organizing a union and demanding $18/hour—how do they think this is going to turn out?
Bookshop will close within 6 months after unionization. If she isn’t taking a salary now, she will go into bankruptcy after unionization with HC and benefits.

I like bookstores, I like to browse the books on display and pick up and flip through them. I don’t like to read books on the computer because reading on screens hurts my eyes and I don’t like to have to order everything online and be at the mercy of porch pirates.
Ten years ago, there were two big bookstores within walking distance of my home. Today, I’m six miles from the nearest bookstore. I have heard that Barnes & Noble may go under, and if it does, I will be 35 miles from the nearest bookstore.
What does it take to sell a book, anyway?
Newman: You can't deliver mail! Jerry: Well, why not? Newman: I guess you're right. It's just walking around putting it into boxes

Hilarious the old yuppies and getting slammed by their children and grandchildren.
The bookstore could easily afford to subsidize heathcare for their employees.
Just cut hourly wages enough to make it work.
For example for an employee working 25 hours a week, if you cut their pay by $3 / hour, you could contribute $300 a month toward their health insurance.
Interesting thread.
Are you going to let them know that the Coonerty family are the ringleaders of the whole Leftist Commie movement in Santa Cruz?
Should really be interesting to see how this plays out.
Leftists never play by the rules they force everyone else to.
“...fully trained booksellers...”
Retail employees working from home. Somehow, I just don’t think that will fly.
Left eats left.
Schadenfreude.
Was there this morning. My boy wanted to buy The Brothers Karamazov. There was a long slow line of 20 complaints outside. The store only allowed 8 people in the store at a time. Hello Amazon.
I am confused:
Can anyone here explain to me-in detail—how a bookstore seller employee can ‘work from home’ because they are afraid of the public due to Covid? Open shipments-—Stock shelves??? DUST?
Most small stores have been completely shut down, anyway.
