A great deal if your good at it. A bookstore like many businesses relies on repeat customers, a good bookseller has to know books, authors, and a great deal more, they should be able to develop a rapport with their customers and if your a good bookseller and you stick with it you’ll have regular customers who rely on you for advice on what to read next and that makes you valuable to the boss.
A good bookseller has to be able to understand trends and to Keep abreast of them so their store isn’t left with dead stock and that makes you valuable to the boss.
There is a great deal to being a good bookseller, i was a very good book seller for several years, I knew my sections backwards and forwards, I knew what questions to ask my customers, I knew how to do my research. Good book selling is an art and it’s a darn shame online book sales are killing bookstores, it’s always a pleasure to walk into a well stocked bookstore, it’s like walking into the home of a very good friend.
