Hollister police arrested an alleged team of catalytic converter thieves early Wednesday.
Two men and a woman, all from Bakersfield, were arrested after a resident called police after seeing suspicious police, police reported.
Officers responded to the report around 12:10 a.m. when they pulled over the reported vehicle with its three occupants. Inside the vehicle they found cutting tools, power tools, saws and two recently removed catalytic converters.
A K-9 search of the vehicle led officers to find methamphetamine and the vehicle itself was later determined to have been stolen.
All three occupants were arrested and have since been released from custody. Any charges of vehicle theft will be referred to the district attorney’s office, police said.
A stolen catalytic converter can be sold to metal recyclers for anywhere between $20 and $250.
Oh boy, environmental crimes. They’ll be put away for ever in California.
my vehicle has been targeted twice. both times they were caught in the middle of the act while in a parking lot and left mid saw.
Cali will lock them up and throw away the key.
what?
Do they break into the care, or go underneath?
Arrested then released! That’ll learn ‘em! Pathetic.
I doubt they were stealing it for scrap. Catalytic converters sell for thousands of dollars. Used ones self for hundreds.
already released? wow.
No cash? No Problem!!
The DEms love handing out “FRee Get OUT OF JAIL FREE!!!” cards.. while the rest of the state’s law biding citizens get snookered... again.

Forget it. It’s local TV journalism.
If you are a junior college journo drop out, there’s always a local TV news station hiring idiots who cannot read or write.
Those catalytic converters aren't going to steal themselves. They need to get them back out there on the job.
Alleged eh?
Hmmmm, seems pretty damn obvious to me.....
underneath..it only takes a short amount of time
first time i had to replace o2 sensors..second time just welded it
I drive a really old car and wont get a new one until it falls apart..but yet they are still trying to get my rusted converter that is about to rust apart anyway
I had the cat cut off my 97 land cruiser bu scumbags. Insurance guy told me my year 97 was the most sought after because it has the most platinum of any vehicle. They have since changed them.
More likely they would lock you up for allowing the thief to steal hazardous materials in your possession.

Like not locking up your guns.
Attractive Nuisance.
And then confiscate your car for no cat.
Typically they hit trucks/SUVs because they sit higher for more room underneath to access and have bigger engines with bigger cats and more precious metals inside.
I’ve heard with a good sharp blade, you can get them off using a battery powered Sawzall in minutes.
only Ca compliant carbs sell for that. federal ones run 200-400 tops, new
2nd generation prius’s are what get hit here. I’m towing at least one a week for a stolen cat.
two bolts and wire cutters and its out in 3 minutes, including jacking one side up
