There may be a shortage of cookies on the shelves this holiday season, one of the biggest commercial producers of confections is warning.
Campbell’s Soup Company, which makes cookies under the Pepperidge Farms brand, warned that it is facing a shortage ahead of its busiest season - including of popular varieties like Milano and Chessman.
In an earnings call with investors, Campbell’s CEO Mark Clouse blamed the shortage on an increase in demand and a labor shortage, both of which are results of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a report compiled by Top Data, American cookie consumption has increased by 25 percent since the start of the pandemic, with 1 in 5 Americans eating three or more cookies per day.
Campbell’s faces additional hurdles in meeting the skyrocketing demand because it does not use third-party manufacturers for Pepperidge Farms cookies - due to the brand’s unique shapes and designs - making it harder for the company to ramp up production to meet increased demand.

Bake your own cookies! Fun for the whole family!
There may be a shortage of cookies on the shelves this holiday season...
Taste like blue crab?
Sausalito Cookies are a weak spot for me.
“..we need to sell more cookies.”
EXACTLY. Can anyone think of genuine, widespread shortages of any product that grew before media hype? I’m sure there are examples, but most times there is a strong financial beneficiary behind the “shortage” existing.
“... tastes like blue crab?”
Beat me to it by this much _______ LOL!
I can attest to why there may be a RITZ shortage: They are closing a plant in NJ, costing 600 people their jobs...
I could care less about Pepperidge Farms holiday cookies as long as Mrs Hanes can make her awesome Moravian cookies. Been eating those since the day I was born.
Try finding Chicken Gumbo Soup.
I did a search and it has been out thru-out the country for months. I searched the local stores online and they are out of stock. Amazon had some but won’t deliver till Dec 28. I checked a few days later and now the price jumped to over $50 for 12 cans. Normal store price is $1.50
I haven’t had chicken gumbo since I was a kid. I can still feel the texture of the gumbo.
Big whoop.... make yer own. Better ingredients, makes the house smell fantastic, great family time project, and homemade taste better too.
They have it at my local Walmart.
Keep trying the local stores.
No kidding...make your own with your stash of Swerve...
That's going to be my Christmas present for my boys who are in their 50s and live in NYC and DC.
You are awesome!! Snickerdoodles are the best!
