PA Turnpike Approves 2021 Toll Increase, New TOLL BY PLATE Rates

HARRISBURG, PA. (JULY 21, 2020) — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) today approved a six-percent toll increase for all E-ZPass rates systemwide and for PA Turnpike TOLL BY PLATE rates that had been established before last month’s permanent conversion to All-Electronic Tolling (AET) at these locations:

The increase — slated to take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2021 — will enable the PTC to continue to maintain and operate its system and ensure safe travel for up to 500,000 daily customers.

“The primary driver of the annual toll-rate increases continues to be our quarterly transit payments to PennDOT and the resulting debt service that comes along with the legislatively mandated funding obligation,” said PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton. “As a result, the PA Turnpike has delivered almost $7 billion in funding to PennDOT in the last decade, primarily to support mass-transit operations in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.”

Compton said the PTC’s debt-service costs on outstanding Act-44 bond debt are $440 million annually and growing; this amount must be paid each year even if the Commission seeks, and is granted, deferment of a quarterly Act-44 payment — as it recently did to partially offset revenue impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

New TOLL BY PLATE Rates Set

As part of its recent systemwide change in toll operations, the Commission today also approved new TOLL BY PLATE rates at toll facilities converted to AET in June. The new rates, which also take effect Jan. 3, 2021, include an average 45% increase over the 2020 cash rate for TOLL BY PLATE motorists . . .

We were warned this past summer. If your business involves the Turnpike, just go ahead and get the EZ-Pass, or you will get jacked for sure.

PING!

I once knew a girl in college who was nicknamed "the Beaver Valley Expressway".

Popular girl, in her own way... Don't ever recall a toll...

I can’t wait until 2023, when the transfer payment that effectively goes to transit unions goes down to $50M/yr from $450M/yr. Maybe the Turnpike authority will mercifully reduce their toll increases to around 3 percent at that time.s

Were there any others known as “Big Beaver Boulevard (Route 18 in western PA)?”

Just like Atlanta. You knew they'd find a way to juice you for riding in HOV lanes.

Probably going to be equipped with automated calls to police for any cars that get away without paying the toll.

That’s only for now. They will probably connect the police to the vehicle through data and have the police look for the vehicle right away.

Is that who the song:

Back plate.

Put your significant other in the trunk with access to slightly lift the trunk, shine a high lumens LED into the cams direction, or drape someting over the plate... or use a bicycle and take back roads.

My only trip on the PA turnpike was when I was almost four in 1950 on a trip from SoCal to NJ. Remember nothing of the turnpike. But I only remember Pittsburgh because of a song at the time, ‘Leo and Cleo and the baby crocodile, Pittsburgh down the river just a half a mile’ It’s crazy the things that stay with you

It must make travelers on the turnpike feel warm and fuzzy knowing their tolls support public transit in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh rather than say keep the turnpike in repair.

No thanks...
When we make our annual trip to MI, we’ll just stay on I-70W until we get to I-75N at Dayton or I-69N at Indy...

With the excellent gas mileage our old Ford-500 gets on the highway, it will be a big savings in money... Maybe 1-1/2 hrs longer... No hurry...

a small piece of electrical tape cut to slightly alter a numeral or letter on the plate. Easily removed when parking, so no issues with the lot patrollers...

just like that its the Pa Turnpike that paid all the money, not the taxpayers who put all that money in...
