Proposal: Require banks to run our elections as a condition of their federal charter and FDIC membership. Their handling of ballots would be as strictly and uniformly regulated as their handling of money.

FDIC - member banks are heavily regulated for uniformity and integrity in their handling of money

The conduct of federal elections should be equally uniform and strictly regulated Why not assign federally charted banks the responsibility of running federal elections?

The “system” we’ve got now would shame many third world countries for its chaotic lack of organization, reliability, and integrity

Just a thought

One thing I could see is having the companies that make ATMs make voting machines. BUT make the software open source so we can all see the code.

One problem is that every state/county/district wants to do things different. Some, you fill in bubbles on a paper ballot and stick it in a scanner. Some, they have touch screens to do your voting, hit submit and it prints a ballot. Some have some sort of card that gets made I guess.

Are there some that keep no paper record at all?

Yea, they also hold your direct deposits for a day or so so they can use it for investment. You have no idea what banks do after hours with your money. They manipulate time stamps so checks bounce when it should have cleared just so they can charge you a fee for a returned check. Wells Fargo just paid a huge fine for doing crap like that. Big Banks are legally crooked as hell.

democrats are already printing up as much votes as they need now, we do not need banks treating votes the same way.

It's not even a matter of who runs the elections. It's a matter of the election laws and procedures.
Third world countries in Africa and Asia regularly hold elections and count ballots overnight with no problems whatsoever.
The French,English,Germans and the rest of the EU conduct and count their elections fine.
The trouble with America is, we've allowed the Democrats to kill every single overhaul of election laws that would make elections transparent and, fraud free and quick.
Since Republicans control the state kdglikatures in all the swing states and Republicans currently control 31 state legislatures, its imperative that massive changes in election procedures are passed and carried out by GOP state legislatures before the 2022 elections.

I’d trust the banks to do it over the post office, that is for sure.

It's not going to be done at the federal level as long as we have filibuster in the US Senate.
Fortunately, election law is the sole prerogative of state legislatures.
We control the state legislatures in all the swing states and currently control 31 state legislatures altogether.
We have the power to change election laws where it matters.
We'd better use that power.

Any system created by human beings can be corrupted by human beings.

Changing without systems without dealing with the corruption solves nothing.

Yes - retail banks might be ok -

I’d rather see elections run by one of the big public accounting firms. They are the ones that keep the banks honest - along with every other industry.

I was a CPA.

I never met a crooked CPA - just a hint of crookedness and you would never work again. I’m sure there are millions of crooked accountants - but public auditors are straight arrows.

Also, the CPAs know how to set up and test fraud-proof internal controls - and preserve an audit trail - so you can always trace reported results back to journal entries - and then back to the transaction’s supporting documents.

Every corporation undergoes a thorough audit once or twice a year and gets its books certified - if there was something to find we would find it - and tighten up the procedures so it couldn’t happen again - if any hint of malfeasance people got fired or worse.

There is no reason that standards should be any lower for a Presidential election!

Yeah clearly the banks are above reproach. HAHAHA.

Really dude. Your idea is basically “let’s hand voting over to the one industry we know for sure is even MORE corrupt than politics.”

Hand ballots.

Vote in-person only, with national voter ID card, and a fingerprint on ballot.

Even stricter requirements for absentee.

I’d rather have the IRS handle it...

But then again they let illegals file stolen SSN number tax returns for refunds... so....

NO!
