Remington is, presumably, still manufacturing the 700 CP in .308 ... anyone know of an outlet that can reliably (if not quickly) get one if ordered?
In these "everything but 6.5 sells out immediately" times, seems most/all local & online dealers just get stuff randomly and sell immediately. I'm looking for somewhere reliably expecting to get it, can give updated status, and will actually hold it for me when they do.

Your friends and gun shows are your best bet. I attend matches and there is usually some folks who bring the Firearms they wish to sell at these matches. Ammo might be a lot more difficult to get for a reasonable price. I reload everything I shoot (that is easily reloadable). I have supples of components. I also have stocks of lead and molds for those arms that can use it.
Understandable it is Not a great time to start from scratch. Good luck and hopefully things will improve
Nobody is holding guns for someone who may or may not show. The manufacturers are backordered for 8-12 months out. If there is something specific you want, go to a gun show or buy it through gunbroker or online and have it shipped to your LGS.
That said, also Sportsmans Warehouse, RK Guns (Rural King). Local gun store here still had a wall full of ARs and AKs last week.
Ammo is another story.
Of course, if you weren't stocked up by now you are way behind the curve.
You need to gun shop on the internet. sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com vizardsgunsandammo.com brownells.com cabelas.com are some I can think of offhand. They will ship to any FFL gun store near you. Find one that will accept a gun from an online dealer and handle the paperwork for you. It shouldn’t cost you more than 50 bucks for them to handle the transfer for you.

Nice thing when selling used guns now is resale prices are better than ever. Never seen it like this but wish you well in your search.

Maybe you should get a 6.5. Creedmoor or Swedemoor.
Another way to arm up is via black powder firearms. They aren’t as wiped out as everything else. Plus you can have them shipped directly to you with no 4473.

Exactly the opposite of what I’m asking for.
That’s wandering they hundreds of mini stores hoping someone has what I want.
