*VANITY* Computer, email Software Recos?
Vanity | 12/04/2020 | Chuckster

Posted on 12/04/2020 11:34:55 AM PST by Chuckster

I have been using Eudora or Eudora Pro since the nineties.

It has finally quit working (again) and before I go through the process of trying to make it work(again), which could take all day(again), I thought I would take the cowards way out and ask for advice from my most trusted source. Free Republic

What course of action, or new software would FReepers choose?

I first got on line in 1995. Very early on I started using Eudora. Never had a reason to change other than change for it's own sake but...

Thunderbird from Mozilla. It’s free. It learns what’s junk and what’s not and is infinitely configurable. I’ve used it for almost 10 yeaqrs and love it. It’s quite a lot like Outlook Express which I dumped for Thunderbird.

I use Microsoft outlook which is synced up to my Blackberry. Been using Outlook for quite a while and works well with plenty of features.

At work I use Thunderbird because that is what we use at work. For my personal email, I no longer use a client. My main email is a Yahoo email and I have others with Gmail. On my phone I have apps for Yahoo and Gmail. I don’t like wasting a lot of space downloading email to a client.

I use Google Mail as my main email and Yahoo! Mail as my backup. Mostly because I don’t want to deal with having to configure email settings and both of them do a pretty good job of filtering out spam nowadays.

Eudorka?

Many, you need to get off your 3Com dial up connection and move away from AOL...

Thunderbird. Free, open source (So no sneaky crap in it) and doesnt have the silly gold plating MS sticks in their stuff. If you get the contacts and calendering addon (also free) it is the equivalent of Outlook. Easy to use. Runs fast. Not complicated.

IMO, THUNDERBIRD from Mozilla is the best replacement for a Eudora user.

That said, you can probably make nearly anything work, except MS Outlook, if your email provider uses standard IMAP or POP service.

MS Outlook only works reliably with MS Exchange mail servers, in my experience. You can twist its arm to work with non-MS mail systems, but in time the arm always snaps back to "Exchange" position.

So, IMO, Thunderbird.

Email client tech question ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

You two are disqualified from ever giving IT advice. Seriously.

Poster asked what car should they buy and you two said Route 66 is a great drive. Please... never ever again give IT advice even under threat of bodily harm.

I started with Eudora in 1995, switched to Netscape 1-9, and now use Opera.

BUMP to Thunderbird. They have a portable version that you can take with you to check your email.

Correction: I now use Thunderbird v78.5.1 for email, and Opera v72.0.3815.400 for my browser, along with Pale Moon v28.14.2.

The nice thing was that Netscape had email built-in, if you wanted to use it.

There is a good Netscape v9 Archive at:
