Pelosi Now Backs Stimulus Deal Half the Size of What White House Offered Before Election
Newsweak ^ | 12/02/20 | Jason Lemon

In a Wednesday statement with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she supports a $908 billion economic relief measure presented by a bipartisan group of lawmakers on Tuesday. The bipartisan bill is roughly half the amount offered by the White House during negotiations with Pelosi before the election.

In October, President Donald Trump's negotiators raised their compromise offer to $1.8 trillion after House Democrats had approved a $2.2 trillion package. But Pelosi opposed the White House compromise, arguing that it did not go far enough and that the language regarding the government health care response to the pandemic was not sufficient. Those negotiations resulted in a stalemate.

On Tuesday, nine senators - four Republicans, four Democrats and one independent - joined by the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus in the House of Representatives, unveiled a $908 billion compromise deal. Although the package does not include nearly as much aid as Democrats pushed for prior to the election, Pelosi and Schumer said they were backing the legislation in "the spirit of compromise."

I’m sure she sees this as a ‘place holder’ if we lose those Senate seats in GA, and Biden becomes president.

She made millions of unemployed people, most of whom lost their jobs through no fault of their own, suffer for months. She did it to make us mad at Trump.

If GA goes to the Dems, Nancy will introduce a new bill on January 21st for more than she wanted last time.

This is a “taste” of the trough. She will get more in January.

“No stimulus checks for you!”

Schumer is already saying he wants 12 more months of $600/week Checks - and he’s going to make that an issue in GA.

Are you saying there will be no stimulus checks issued out to individuals from this present downsized stimulus?

CNN is reporting that’s not going to happen, but I did get an answer to my question: The Squad is pointing fingers at Nancy on Twitter (Tlaib is leading the charge on that one). Let the self-munching begin!

The White House offer was never the hold up. The Senate wouldn’t even go to $1T.

If the Democrats want to engage in a circular firing squad, let’s make sure they have all the ammo they need.

What does the compromise bill include that’s not COVID related?

Does it include bail outs for Democrat cities?
