Full Title: We're as good as it gets: Intelligent life is extremely UNLIKELY to exist anywhere else in the universe because it took a series of miracles for humans to evolve, say scientists

Statisticians say the evolution of intelligent life is 'exceptionally rare', and that human-like civilisations are extremely unlikely to exist on other planets.

In a new paper, Oxford researchers theorise that, for life to evolve in the same way elsewhere in the universe, it would take longer than the whole of Earth's projected lifespan.

Evolution on Earth from the Big Bang up until the current day has involved a series of what they call 'evolutionary transitions' that were helped by chance....

...The fact that some transitions occurred only once in Earth's history suggests a remarkable stroke of luck ...

“Intelligent life” invents bureaucracy... becomes extinct.

If this covid pandemic hasn’t convinced everyone of the absolute truth of that statement I don’t know what could!

The article won’t open for me past 1st screen, and I do not care to defeat my ad blocker. What are these “miraculous” transitions, anyway? I’ve always viewed environmental changes as driving life, once established, toward advancement. But any idea that the changes and their sequence as it occurred on Earth is/are the only way to “get there” seems incredibly narrow minded. It might be the only way to get “here”, but “there” might be much different.

IOW, you do not have to absolutely alone to be effectively alone. So make your plans like you are alone and get on with the work. Write up the contingency procedures and file them under Tab ZZZ: Extremely Unlikely Events in the Spacefarer Operations Manual.

By the way, if that another alien spacefaring civilization eventually comes across evidence of Earth spacefaring activities, is there any reason to believe they will not be as equally surprised and disturbed about it as we would be?

They will have had access to their version of the same science and reasoning as the scientists reported on the article. It is reasonable to infer them reaching silimiar conclusions. It is also reasonable to assume that, when presented with absolutely incontrovertible evidence that “the miracle” occurred at least TWICE (say the derelict Voyager probe), they would be eager to find out more about it.

How such a first contact is managed would be a reflection of the culture and experience of each civilization involved . Given Earth’s history of repeatedly bungled first contacts...

Yeah.

Trillions of galaxies each with billions of stars creates a number so huge that no human mind can understand it.

Each solar system, so far observed, has at least one planet. Now multiply that times the number of stars above.

Yet with a number even supercomputers would struggle with, these so called statisticians say there is only one planet with intelligent life?

The scientific establishment is struggling to hold their meme together and this sounds like a last minute desperate attempt to keep their hold on a failed meme.

Exactly what data does one need, when considering we may be one of the more primitive of intelligent species? Does everyone have to communicate by radio waves? Do we have the sum total of scientific knowledge which precludes any other as yet unknown form of communication? What is hubris?

Author is forgetting about the beings that engineered the life on this planet in the first place. I’m of the opinion that life here is a feat of biological engineering. Although I suppose it’s possible that whatever civilization created this planet is now extinct.

What happened to “ with billions of stars and planets circling them, it would be incredibly arrogant to believe we were the only intelligent life out there?”

“The trouble from a religious angle is, did Jesus die for them also?”

Maybe. But if God created other worlds with intelligent life, they might have completely different religious perspectives. Maybe there was no original sin so no need to send a Savior. We tend to think from our earthly perspective and reality.

I think we’re the only ones, but who knows what God did?

Angels are intelligent beings, they just exist in a coordinate system the scientists don’t believe exists because [...]

Well, as long as they exist in a different "coordinate system" (a dimension or realm where our physical laws don't apply), our scientists wouldn't "have a problem" with their existence; from our scientists point of view, the question of their existence or non-existence would not be falsifiable (i.e., no conceivable test or experiment could "reveal" them to us).

But as soon as they (the "angels") entered our "realm" or "dimension," then they would be subject to the physical laws of our Universe.

And there is first-hand testimony that they have done that, enter our coordinate system. They use vehicles from their coordinate system in our coordinate system in order to fly around.

“By the way the smallest chromosome in the human body has 1 million amino acids in it.”

Are you saying that chromosomes are made up of amino acids or are you talking about the proteins associated with chromosomes?

Excellent question. Chromosomes are part of the DNA and are made if amino acids. The information (instructions) to build proteins is encoded in the chromosomes. Proteins are also made of amino acids. Proteins are the molecular machines that make a cell work. There are roughly 10e5 different proteins, each for specific purposes in the operation of a living cell. The problem, as with hemoglobin there is only one right way to make it and 10e630 wrong ways. The problem is that to get a functioning cell is that you need all of the machines for it to function. Let alone all the other things such as lipid membranes etc. The big problem is that we live in a finite universe and there is just not enough time or material for random chance to work.

For evolution to even be considered. You must insert "infinity". That is why the multi-verse was postulated. The multiverse postulate is perfect, in that it would exist outside of experiential reality and exists only as a mathematical construct. It cannot be proven either right or wrong. Thus infinity, which does not exist in our reality, has been given new life. Therefore random chance can again be considered and we do not need a creator.

So you accept first-hand testimony? ... I didn’t think so.

With billions of stars in our galaxy. And billions of galaxies in the universe even the “statistically impossible” can have happened many many times.

“Excellent question. Chromosomes are part of the DNA and are made if amino acids.”

DNA and Chromosomes are NOT made up of amino acids. You should have learned that in High School biology. Your credibility regarding biology is negligible.
