The people with hidden immunity against Covid-19
BBC ^ | 7/19/2020 | Zaria Gorvett

In short, though antibodies have proved invaluable for tracking the spread of the pandemic, they might not have the leading role in immunity that we once thought. If we are going to acquire long-term protection, it looks increasingly like it might have to come from somewhere else.

But while the world has been preoccupied with antibodies, researchers have started to realise that there might be another form of immunity – one which, in some cases, has been lurking undetected in the body for years. An enigmatic type of white blood cell is gaining prominence. And though it hasn’t previously featured heavily in the public consciousness, it may well prove to be crucial in our fight against Covid-19. This could be the T cell’s big moment.

But the side effects are rough. I tend to break out in blacked eyes and skinned knuckles.

I wondered about that; some sort of immunity/shot some of us had as kids. It (TB shot) IS lung related after all. I would probably get more ill from a vaccine.

My great grandmother died from TB, much of her whole family died from it. My great grandfather did not get it in spite of being an asthmatic. May be a genetic strength? Naw. I just do not GO anywhere.

If T cells are the key then the cancer MABs like Keytruda and Yervoy might be key. Though they are expensive. Yervoy can be $80K a dose, though the dose required for COVID might be far smaller than for melanoa.

The guy in the article probably had hemochromatosis or iron overload. I have it. There are 6 bad genes, 3 alleles. One major one and two smaller ones. Gene 282 is the worst, and if you have two copies of that, one from each parent, probably not a good outcome. Then there are 63 and 65, just minor genes, but there none the less. I have one copy of 282 and one copy of 65. So I have to give away blood about 3 times a year.
Came from the Irish potato famine. Grandpa was an Irishman.

So I have to give away blood about 3 times a year.

Are you saying that you donate blood - or that you have to have blood siphoned off (and presumably discarded) three times a year?

Regards,

That’s because the uninformed, naive public believes all the crap the CDC and the media shouts at them daily. Too many Americans are incapable of independent thinking, and reasoning, and common sense. They wear their silly masks and denigrate the independent thinkers brave enough to go about being an American.

May be a genetic strength?

My father had TB in his 50s and survived though he spent months in a sanitarium, and died at 89 of unrelated causes.

In any event, I never got it, nor did my mom or my brother, and we all lived in the same house as his disease progressed.

I've never had the flu, and as far as I know, I've never had the covid, and I don't think I ever had a TB shot.

You might be right.

Bill Gates has been awfully quiet since the spring.

He’s pushed Pandemic Panic for 5 years. That this won’t be the only pandemic we face.

Plus flu season etc.

Nope as they claimed in the spring-summer. This is the new normal and “we should think about not going back to how things once were”.

My wife has Lupus. According to her doctor, Lupus patients have such an aggressive immune system that they are immune to COVID19. That being said, she still wears a mask, so as to protect others, in case she’s picked up anything while shopping or such.
