The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

Winner – Animals in their Environment and Garand Title Winner: The embrace by Sergey Gorshkov, Russia Winner 2020 With an expression of sheer ecstasy, a tigress hugs an ancient Manchurian fir, rubbing her cheek against bark to leave secretions from her scent glands. She is an Amur, or Siberian, tiger, here in the Land of the Leopard National Park. Gorshkov installed his first proper camera trap in January 2019, opposite this grand fir. But it was not until November that he achieved the picture he had planned for, of a magnificent tigress in her Siberian forest environment. Wow you have an interesting life. I watch a documentary every year called Alone in the Wilderness, about a 51 year old man who built a cabin and lived in the Alaska wilderness for over 30 years. I am fascinated with it. His name was Dick Proenneke. It was on pbs.
Athol Orchards - Apple Cider Syrup - Cyber Monday Sale
Athol Orchards | November 30, 2020 | POF

There’s a heritage apple orchard in Athol, Idaho called “Athol Orchards.” They make the most amazing apple cider syrup which is a delightful change from good old maple syrup on your pancakes and waffles. They are located in the Idaho Panhandle region, part of the Inland Northwest.
The woman who founded and runs the company is a real apple aficionado and really knows a lot about heritage apples. She attends heritage apple conferences to perfect her craft and belongs to the heritage apple associations in the Pacific Northwest.
She started up Athol Orchards a few years ago and has done an absolutely amazing job expanding her business. She now has retail distribution in a lot of places in North Idaho and Western Washington...and has added her first retail store in Northern California!
Her mail order business is really taking off, too, and today is her Cyber Monday sale.
So I thought I’d take this opportunity to plug one of my favorite foods to my friends on FR. I have no business or family association with Athol Orchards — I just love her products and her success story! She first started selling through local Farmer’s Markets and, in a few short years, has really expanded the business.
If you want to try something wonderful, unique, and new as well as support a local woman entrepreneur, give it a try. If you’re ever in North Idaho, be sure to stop by their operation!
PS: The “Hot Apple Syrup” sounds a bit odd, but it really works. Just a slight hint of “heat” in the sweet syrup is a great combination.
WOW! That is one beautiful tiger and one winning shot! Post anything from Nature that you think we’d appreciate. We’re a captive audience with a lot of soon to be shut-ins once the snow flies! :)
You’ve got garlic growing down to an art! :)
It was a lovely day until a few hours ago. The doorbell rang because my pizza arrived. In the process of opening the door, a bird flew in. I have been trying to persuade it to leave with no success. I had just finished cleaning and will most likely have to do it all over again! The bird is probably a Carolina Wren, which are numerous around here. Have a nice night everybody.
Catch it with a butterfly or fishing net if you have one. If not, a big bath towel. If all else fails, deploy the cat, LOL!
I had to deal with BATS at my other farm. Had SIX in the house one summer evening. Eeek!
Good Luck! :)
Thans for the advice. The bird flew out on its own. I said to it “time to fly home” and it left. So now I’m looking arould closely for any evidence the bird was here.
