Bush to begin transition, urges Gore not to contest Florida (old article - look what a difference 20 years makes)

AUSTIN, Texas (CNN) -- Texas Gov. George W. Bush said he will go ahead with forming an administration after Florida officials certified his 537-vote lead in that state's presidential recount Sunday, but Vice President Al Gore prepared to challenge those results in a formal contest.

Bush named his running mate, former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney, to lead his transition team, and former Transportation Secretary Andrew Card to serve as chief of staff.

"This has been a hard-fought election, a healthy contest for American democracy," Bush said. "But now that the votes are counted, it is time for the votes to count. The vice president's lawyers have said they will contest the election results: I respectfully ask him to reconsider."

Gore's top lawyer and his running mate, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, said they would contest the results in Florida courts. Bush argued against that course in a brief address Sunday night.

"If the vice president chooses to go forward, he is filing a contest to the outcome of the election -- and that is not the best route for America," Bush said.

Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris announced the certified totals Sunday night, after a deadline for counties to submit amended returns from hand recounts passed at 5 p.m. The final tally, according to Harris, was 2,912,790 votes for Bush; 2,912,253 for Gore.

"Accordingly, on behalf of the state Election Canvassing Commission and in accordance with the laws of the state of Florida, I hereby declare Governor George W. Bush the winner of Florida's 25 electoral votes for the president of the United States," Harris said.

Florida's electoral votes would give Bush, the Republican candidate, one more than the 270 needed to win the presidency in the Electoral College.

This time-capsule is insightful for a number of reasons:

-They still didn't call Bush "President-elect"

-CNN is actually pretty balanced. It is stunning how far they devolved over the past 20 years.

-notice how Trump had the GSA start on a Biden transition. In contrast, • Bush announced plans to begin a transition Sunday night, but the General Services Administration -- the government agency that supplies material resources to federal employees -- said it would not yet provide money or office space to him or Gore to plan a new administration. "Until the results are clear, and as long as both sides are going to court, the results are not clear yet," GSA spokeswoman Beth Newberger told CNN. Under the 1963 Transition Act, Newberger said, it is the GSA administrator, not the sitting president, who decides which candidate may receive the transition resources.

CNN is now owned by ATT

- State Street Capital acquired Dominion in 2018
- William Kennard, is director of Staple Street Capital.
- On Nov. 6, Bloomberg reported that Kennard was named as the next chairman of AT&T

Who counted the votes? Who are the stakeholders in Dominion Voting Systems?

ATT wants Beijing Biden to win.

What’s freaking me out is that’s already 20 years ago. My God, where does time go? It feels like 5 years. I remember EVERYTHING about that election. Remember Al Gore getting Jessie Jackson to go down to Florida and protest about “blacks being turned away at the polls”? And it was exposed as a hoax. Then the freakin’ chads where he wanted even blank ballots counted as a vote for him.

Sidney Powell looks like she has a huge amount of evidence, even photos of checks used to play people to ballot harvest. If she pulls a miracle and gets this election overturned in Trumps favor, I am forever calling Biden “Former President elect Biden”. LMAO!!

I was one of those morons who sided with Bush. Would Gore have been worse? Hard to tell. I should have known that BushII would be merely another globalist, selling out America, just like his Dad,

hope this turns out to be consequential!

a couple of tweets from Millie Weaver in recent days (dates might be Australia time):

27 Nov: My family sacrificed our traditional thanksgiving dinner this year, not because of COVID19, but to fight for election integrity!
Myself, my husband, my brother, my sister, and my kids have spent the past 2 weeks in D.C. while DH and I worked hard coordinating whistleblowers.

25 Nov: We have whistleblowers that can testify to and provide information about wide scale election fraud and criminal acts involving this election.
We need immunity protections now!

It’s always difficult because the Repubs put up sleazy candidates, besides Eisenhower, Goldwater, Reagan and Trump. And the GOPe didn’t want any of those three either.

CNN is owned by ATT, because ATT wanted Time-Warner and CNN was part of the package.

I don’t think CNN has become any more virulently leftist since the AT&T purchase... it’s been bad for a long time.

OTOH, I can’t figure out why AT&T keeps it. I don’t think its a big money maker for them, and they could use the cash to pay down debt if anyone would buy it. It’s not as if CNN promotes AT&T in any way I can see.

First of all, I'm glad to see our man inside Hollyweird posting again.

Second, I'll give you one good reason why we 'wasted' our vote on Bush: Alito/Heller.

Bush gave us Roberts (who, yes, is a hot mess), but also Alito who replaced O'Connor. Both guys were part of the 5-4 majority in District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008).

Had Bush lost to Gore, Gore likely would have been re-elected in 2004 and had a shot at these two SCOTUS seats. Or, had Lurch won in 2004, it'd be the same deal. And we'd likely have gotten a 5-4 ruling against KABA.

Yes, Roberts sucks now, but Alito is solid. And for Heller I lose no sleep over Bush winning.

And yes.. the 2nd Amendment is THAT important.
