Closures of NM groceries raise concerns

Anna Hagele typically shops for groceries for her and her four children at the Walmart Supercenter on Herrera Drive in Santa Fe because she likes the prices.

However, on Friday, Hagele found herself waiting in a line of 40 people outside a local Albertsons, after the state announced Wednesday the Herrera Drive Walmart would be closed for the next two weeks – one of a dozen grocery stores in New Mexico closed in recent weeks due to multiple cases of COVID-19 among workers.

The Herrera Drive Walmart is one of three grocery stores currently closed in Santa Fe under an edict that allows the New Mexico Department of Health to close workplaces down for two weeks if they have four or more COVID-19 rapid responses in a 14-day period.

Each of the three groceries closed in Santa Fe serves residents on the city’s Southside, leaving fewer choices for food in an area already starving for options.

People have been doing that where my son works. Multiple times just like you mentioned.

"I would consider them low risk environments as far as getting the virus from the store or workers. The risk would be from getting it from other customers. But that risk must be weighed against having an essential service available to those who depend on its products."

I agree with most of your post, but it must be pointed out, that the virus lives on surfaces more than long enough to be passed from one person to another by touching the same product, and one of the reasons I stopped shopping Wal-Mart is precisely the obtuse carelessness with which goons handle the merch, and how little time Wal-Mart directs their employees to spend cleaning/refacing product -- exactly the lack of attention to detail which doomed KMart.

"The PCR testing is wildly inaccurate"

Intentionally designed as such, as false positives have an x2 or higher effect in raising the COVID rate of infection:

I thought masks and social distancing were supposed to cure the contagion?

What does closing the store do for it?

That should be considered. I think that is where using hand sanitizer or wipes while shopping comes in. That and washing your hands when you get home.

My granddaughter showed up night before last to get some toilet paper. She knows I always just stack up 12 packs in the garage. She had been to 5 stores with 0 to be found. One guy at a store told her....be here early in the morning but be prepared....the line is around the store and bam it’s gone.

Son picked up some early at Smith’s Tramway location yesterday. Line at Walmart was over one hundred counting both doors at the Eubank site.

Saw photos of line at Costco at the Renaissance location.

Seems common sense would allow bigger stores to have more people, maybe based on percentage in lieu of hard numbers.

But, ‘common sense’ ain’t common no more!

Still God is good! ‘Donno’ why He loves me? And He is still in control!

I have about 20 12 packs in the garage. I do paper runs for it and paper towels and just stack them in the garage. That way I don’t have to think about it very often. I think I’m good. Lol

If you happen to have a urgent need for a prescription refill that is sitting in this walmart, but now the store is closed for 2 weeks. Renting or ‘borrowing’ a backhoe, you can knock the wall in at the pharmacy side and retrieve your prescription. /sarc off
