Well yeah, color me surprised.
Anything that defies any stupid quarantine dictate.
Pics and stuff at the link, sorry this was not easily copied and posted, kinda like trying to copy aunt Flo’s lime jello ambrosia..
We don’t have any specific traditions. Last year we had Thanksgiving pizza.
This year it’s venison. Actually, we’re doing it tonight due to work on the part of one of my adult kids.
Watergate Salad ...
My niece and nephew are partial to Watergate Salad — which is not in any way a salad. Or maybe it’s a candy salad. I’ve always contributed that to Thanksgiving.
This year, it’ll just be my sister, BIL, DH, and myself and we’re going to a truck stop for Thanksgiving. We called around and that’s the only place that has bread stuffing instead of cornbread stuffing.
My favorite dish???
Revenge.
Served cold.
But not just for Thanksgiving.
😁
Oyster dressing and shrimp grits.
Does greenbean casserole count?
No, guess not.
Heh, in my house growing up, I suspect any visitor would conclude that we had purchased our bird from a place that genetically bred turkeys to have no skin!
When the turkey leaves the oven to cool, my mother had to post a guard over the turkey to keep us from denuding it buy filching patches of crispy and tasty skin!
It never worked. We always had turkeys arrive at the table with a body that looked like Michael Jackson’s face when he was halfway through bleaching it.
knöpfle
It is an egg noodle recipe handed down to me directly from my grandmother who came from Thalwil, Switzerland.
One Saturday after we moved to Hollywood during a hike in the Hwd Hills. Kinda reminiscing this morning...
Keep em comin, good ideas.
There were some amazingly gross looking and sounding dishes but I totally understand them. We have nixed the turkey, nobody really likes it and have bbq meat, every kind under the sun. Also deviled eggs which I make, and always always always chocolate meringue pie. This year, with the pie shop I purchase it from closed, I’m going to make it myself. wish me luck.
We normally have a Thanksgiving Recipe thread, and they’ve been great. Maybe this thread will be it in 2020.
Wild rice casserole with cranberries, chestnuts, and morel mushrooms.
We had the usual family favorites: corn pudding, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, oyster stuffing, etc.
However, over the last 3 years, I have gone low carb for health reasons (dodged the Type 2 diabetes bullet), so I have been trying to find side dishes that fit my life style & that are still very tasty ... the family doesn’t know they are low carb unless they ask. In the last year, my brother has joined me on the low carb journey due to serious heart health issues he needs to get turned around if he wants to see his grandkids grow up. My SIL therefore is also looking for low carb dishes to make.
One dish I’ve been making is a Brussel Sprouts casserole that I found online & made into a low carb dish. Shockingly, quite a few in the family love it - it is now requested for family get-togethers.
Two days ago, I tried a low carb green bean casserole recipe - really delicious. My brother & mother taste tested & loved it. Either my SIL will make it, or I will.
A third dish is a “Harvest Squash” casserole. I have not tried it yet, but will be making it for Thursday. I trust the recipe author to have delicious food (she did the green bean casserole recipe). With 3 sides & turkey, we low carbers + one Type 1 diabetic, will have plenty to eat. I’ve also found a sugar-free pecan pie, so I’ll be making that for dessert.
Oysters coated in cracker crumbs and sautéed in butter until they are golden brown.
Besides the usual deep fried Cajun turkey , I’m smoking a 15 lb gator .
Anulini, made from scratch, in chicken broth.
Grandma used to make it, then Mom, now my sister.
I haven’t tasted it in years.
Anulini...Small oval or round pasta envelopes similar to ravioli folded into a half moon shape and with a frilled edge with a rich meat stuffing.
Sweet and Sour Green Beans
Corn Pudding
Scalloped Oysters
Gut Gravy (Giblet Gravy)
We used to have two types of dressing. One was the stuffing from the bird cooked in muffin tins and the other was just normal dressing.
All of that ended when my mother died. My siblings refuse to visit even though we have the beds for them.
