Awww. Nice.
We normally have a Thanksgiving Recipe thread, and they’ve been great. Maybe this thread will be it in 2020.
I have to seen carlo3b in many years
Having Hunter Biden over, Nice chrome plate of lines of Cocaine!
Wild rice casserole with cranberries, chestnuts, and morel mushrooms.
We had the usual family favorites: corn pudding, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, oyster stuffing, etc.
However, over the last 3 years, I have gone low carb for health reasons (dodged the Type 2 diabetes bullet), so I have been trying to find side dishes that fit my life style & that are still very tasty ... the family doesn’t know they are low carb unless they ask. In the last year, my brother has joined me on the low carb journey due to serious heart health issues he needs to get turned around if he wants to see his grandkids grow up. My SIL therefore is also looking for low carb dishes to make.
One dish I’ve been making is a Brussel Sprouts casserole that I found online & made into a low carb dish. Shockingly, quite a few in the family love it - it is now requested for family get-togethers.
Two days ago, I tried a low carb green bean casserole recipe - really delicious. My brother & mother taste tested & loved it. Either my SIL will make it, or I will.
A third dish is a “Harvest Squash” casserole. I have not tried it yet, but will be making it for Thursday. I trust the recipe author to have delicious food (she did the green bean casserole recipe). With 3 sides & turkey, we low carbers + one Type 1 diabetic, will have plenty to eat. I’ve also found a sugar-free pecan pie, so I’ll be making that for dessert.
Low carb green bean salad? the secret is bacon grease!
Same for refried beans, the pork lard man! the pork lard!
Actually I think it was Aunt Tooty that made the weird lime jello thing with shredded carrots, mini marshmallows and mayonnaise...
It sure betty crocker or kraft or some insane person was involved...
Oysters coated in cracker crumbs and sautéed in butter until they are golden brown.
the secret is bacon grease!

Oh, this low carb green bean casserole is loaded with bacon - 10 slices!! Actually, just the bacon, onion, garlic & mushrooms cooked to the point where you put it in the casserole dish, would be just fine served in a bowl. Once in the casserole dish, you add a “gravy”/sauce plus topping. The leftovers reheated well & were still excellent eating. BTW, I greased the casserole dish lightly with bacon grease, too.
Refried beans are no low carb. My dad grew up with his mom using lard, so I’m very familiar with it. :-)
You eat like I think!
YUM!
Besides the usual deep fried Cajun turkey , I’m smoking a 15 lb gator .
Amen, pass the beans.
gator tail is like a fish flavored pork chop :)
Do you shuck the oysters or buy them already shucked? That sounds good and I might check it out.
Please share your corn pudding recipe.
After we returned to Ohio, she lost a battle with breast cancer at 28 when my daughters were 4 and 1. I instantly became Mr Mom.
Not sure why I'm going down memory lane...but one more photo of my Susan.
Anulini, made from scratch, in chicken broth.
Grandma used to make it, then Mom, now my sister.
I haven’t tasted it in years.
Anulini...Small oval or round pasta envelopes similar to ravioli folded into a half moon shape and with a frilled edge with a rich meat stuffing.
