An Oregon man crashed a Tesla while going about 100 mph, destroying the vehicle, a power pole and starting a fire when some of the hundreds of batteries from the vehicle broke windows and landed in residences, police said. Dylan Milota was driving a 2019 Tesla S Tuesday night when he lost control, left the road and traveled more than 300 feet before stopping, according to Corvallis Police Lt. Ryan Eaton.
The car sheared off a power pole at the base, knocked down two trees and a telephone junction box, police said. Batteries tossed from the Tesla in the collision landed in a person’s lap and on a bed in a nearby residence, causing the bedding to ignite, police said. Police said hundreds of batteries used to power the vehicle were strewn around in the crash.
A tire ripped from the car also struck the siding of a nearby apartment building with such force that it ruptured the water pipes in the wall, destroying part of an apartment, police added.

Milota was taken to a hospital for minor injuries and is facing misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of marijuana, hit and run, criminal mischief, reckless driving and reckless endangering, Eaton said.
Hello boys and girls. Can you say 'dumbass'? I knew you could.
Tesla/Panasonic patented a new cell, larger with a greater capacity, but the require sophisticated thermal monitoring and cooling to prevent runaway thermal events. Don't know if they are in real world use at this point.
So, in a more violent crash, Tesla’s can throw hot, electrochemical shrapnel.
Noted.
I wonder who’s brilliant idea it was to collect batteries in metal buckets.
New selling point for Tesla.
You are riding in a Cluster Bomb.
Dumbest article ever. A gasoline mechanical car would have ejected hot parts at that speed.
I actually think the powers that be are playing conservatives against Tesla, because Tesla cars will skirt all of their stupid environmental laws.
They don’t want us mobile.
I mean, look at the COVID19 lockdowns.
Don’t believe the anti-Tesla hype!
Conservatives should be fully backing Tesla at this point. Because if Tesla is gone, you WILL be riding horses soon enough.
Good luck conducting any sort of interesting political or military action on a horse against the government’s cars.
High speed golf kart alert. Sounds like something from a Caddyshack sequel.
21700 batteries are becoming more common. Cordless tool manufacturers like Milwaukee and De Walt use 21700 batteries in some of their battery packs. I also have several Olight flashlights that use 21700 batteries. They typically have a 5000 mAH capacity vs. 2200-3000 mAH for the 18650.

21700 batteries are not same as Tesla 2170s as I understand it. Hard to find Tesla’s specs...different chemistry?
Last bit of news from Tesla was this summer about the 2170s being in full production, but only for EVs and maybe PowerWall solar storage packs.
Those flashlights using 21700 are pretty pricey....
Liberals can’t see past he wall socket.
“The 85 kWh battery pack contains about 7100 cells. “
That’s an example of some kind of efficiency, but what kind I’m not sure.
“WTH powers that thing,, rechargeable AA batteries???”
Yes, thousands of them all hooked together in a big case.
