The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
Played around till word six opened up.
I might remember some drunk guy explaining this to me
Strange puzzle today, Folks.
Word 6 will appear out of no where and take you home.
But, in the end, it comes down to the last word. lol
2 minutes is superior today
4 minutes is excellent
6 minutes is good
Yes, same here. Was playing around, and looked up and word #6 is staring at you, but are you sure you got the last word right?
CONSTANT COMPLAINT IS THE POOREST SORT OF PAY FOR ALL THE COMFORTS WE ENJOY.---BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
For whatever reason, I got the source pretty quickly, and it looked like smooth sailing, but for some reason I hit a blind spot on the last word, and muffed it. There are three valid words that be substituted for the last word, only one of which makes sense. I did not choose that one. (I googled to check my answer, because I mistrusted it.)
The “author” popped right out after the first two words.
Not the first two words. After the first and third word
Article and verb start it off...Not sure of the last word, but lost interest.
Bout 1 minute.
1st and 3rd words by grammar and inspection.
Gives 8th word.
That gives the 5th word.
That gives the 7th word, and the 1st word after the comma.
That gives word 6.
The rest is just gravy.
Concentrated on the third and eighth word which, wild guessing clued the author’s first name, which revealed the sixth word.
As to the last word, I picked the one that was in the news lately. Seemed appropriate.
I really got off on the wrong foot here at first. I thought it was talking about the private parts of a rodent.
X marks the spot that is still blank....
3 possibles, none make sense (I am not an architect, maybe its specialized lingo).
GV...GSV was a good way to start for me, though.
See #9
Thx, got it...still a strange one, though. Must be a reference to hospitality offered by the owners.
You picked up where you left off!
Weird use of the word, must mean something not common here.
huh?
