Don't expect any Windows 10 preview updates in December due to holidays, says Microsoft.
Microsoft has told Windows 10 owners and IT admins not to expect any Windows 10 preview updates in December to give them a break when staffing levels are low over the holiday season.
December will be a break from the usual schedule of Windows 10 updates each month, which include optional previews that arrive after the mandatory Patch Tuesday security updates in the second week of every month.
"Because of minimal operations during the holidays and the upcoming Western new year, there won't be any preview releases for the month of December 2020," Microsoft said in a support note.
The company will resume monthly servicing with the January 2021 security releases, it said.

”That the halls of Apple and Microsoft are redolent of pants-splitting, eye-watering curry farts might be a clue.”
Indian programmers by and large always write slow running, buggy code which requires a lot of monitoring and maintenance as a form of job security.
> What's "Windows?" I use Ubuntu 20.10. No "patch Tuesday" here!
But of course you do "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade; sudo shutdown -r now" every few weeks, yes? Or the desktop GUI equivalents?
Microsoft: “Hey, we know you’re short on people during the holidays, so we’re not going to compound your operational issues when you’re understaffed”
Actual: “Most of OUR staff went home for Diwali in November, we didn’t get squat done.”
You might be stuck on the update from a year ago. It didn't go well for me either and I had to search the MS pages for a solution. I don't remember exactly what I did but the upgrade took after that and I haven't had any problems since.
Your notebook might be stuck in an upgrade loop that it cannot get out of. Search the internet for a solution?
> Still using 18.04. Any major changes if I upgrade to 20.10? I am a little averse to change because of when they redid the unity GUI. 18.04 is perfect.
Unsolicited opinion: I run 18.04.5. It took a few point-releases to get things worked out.
I don't trust 20.04 yet -- it's only at 20.04.1. I'd wait until 20.04.3 or thereabouts. JMHO.
And our major software developers got arrested in one of the recent riots and we are trying to bail them out. :)
Thanks. I appreciate it. I will wait.
Doesn’t bother me. I’m enjoying my Windows 7 and have no intention to upgrade. My upgrade is turned off.
And as for 20.10 — I’m somewhat risk-averse when it comes to beta software on important systems.
I still have a Windows 7 machine and it runs fine. I upgraded it from XP — bought a cheap OEM license a couple of years ago (~$50 for Win7 pro). Unfortunately, the hardware is not compatible with the Win 10 upgrade.
I upgraded from XP because programs like web browsers were no longer supporting XP including MS and IE. Which made surfing a little more difficult. I did find that Firefox worked great. Chrome, not. And IE wasn't supported by more and more web sites.
I wonder if Win7 will follow the same way.
I considered installing Linux on that computer but I used it (and use it) for videography and had some custom software installed on it.
I admit nothing. :-)
I’m happy with Windoze 7.

i’m sure you’re right, I work in corporate IT doing systems management and software development and I just can’t stand the thought of working all day doing that and then having a muck around on my own time fixing Microsoft’s craptastic operating system that I paid good money for. There is truth to the saying that “The cobbler‘s son has no shoes.“
Satya Nadella is dragging Microsoft down.
a massive auto-upgrade that took more than half an hour to completely install.
Mine used to take that long until I swapped out my HD for this:
Now it takes ten minutes at most.
I think there’s a difference with operating systems and web browsers. Microsoft replaced IE with Microsoft Edge. I don’t know why they did that except for marketing reasons but it does not surprise me that Win10 is not compatible with IE since the same company (Microsoft) wants to push you to Edge and off IE.
I suggest everyone get all your work done now and backed up before their next update that will delete your files and cause you to reinstall windows 10....!
Lol. Most of us, me included, dabble in it on the weekends and enjoy it. Although, I have been dabbling for around 30 years. We have several computers in the family too and I am the designated stuckee.
I tend to be anal retentive when it comes to updates, too.
Try looking it up on the internet. No doubt others have had the same problems. It was very frustrating for me and a “simple upgrade” shouldn’t have been that difficult. But it was major. And yes, it takes a long time to download and install and fail back... yuck!... only to repeat it the next day.
Once you get it unstuck, then there will be another upgrade behind it (the new one that was released recently). Don’t know if you can skip over upgrades.
Good luck!
Agreed. Why replace a crappy browser with an even crappier web browser. And Edge was terrible! But apparently it is now actually Chrome in an Edge/Microsoft wrapper. Seems to work better now, too.
I don’t know if version installed on some Win7 systems (mine included) is the Chrome based Edge. It probably is. Yes, Edge is now on my Win7 system. Anyway, Chrome still works and so does Firefox (on my Win7 system). I even need IE for some old web cams.
Still getting updates on Win7 but for how long?

IMO anyone who values their data, regardless of whether they're on Windows, MacOS, or Linux, should back up their data incrementally daily, with a full backup once a month PRIOR to allowing any updates.
EaseUS Todo is what I use.
