They can’t prove who they are from a phone call. It’s one thing for you to call somebody, knowing the number & entity you’re calling, but when they call you there’s not credibility established - which is why legitimate agencies wouldn’t do this.
I’ve had legit people call me about a specific issue I was aware of - BUT - the second they asked ME to validate who I was by providing personal information I tell them I can’t/won’t as “you called me”. I ask if there’s something I can do online to check a number, handle via email, or fill in, etc.. - of which the person was immediately fine with and understood.
Sometimes I “play” with the fraudsters - make out like I’m hard of hearing, or I’m arguing with my wife, or give then random bogus information. Just waste their time and have some fun doing it :)
I wouldn’t worry about it.
I get these idiot calls all the time......you’ll get letter from SS telling you to come in!!!!
Georgia number probably Stacy Abrams raising money to pay poll workers off.
She’s the Governor you know.
maybe some day you will get lucky and get an amazing offer from a Nigerian prince to make you very rich
We get those calls all the time in FLORIDA.
It’s a SCAM!..................Ignore it.
I get this frequently. Scam.
We get at least twice a month that same call.
IT’S A SCAMMER!
DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER!..............Ignore it!
A poor lady here in our town lost $20k to this garbage!................
I had a call like that and went down to SS in my area. Played the voicemail for the SS employee. They checked my account and documented my visit on my account.
Yeah, the reports would go to the same people who are trying to steal the election.
Did you forget the sarcasm tag?
Years ago I bought something on Ebay - a fairly expensive piece of equipment.
I got a call a couple weeks later from a “cop” that said the piece of equipment had been stolen, and that I needed to send it to their office or I would be an accessory.
First I asked how they got my number. Then said “I’m guessing that means you have my address as well. I’d be glad to cooperate in any way possible. Send me a letter on your letterhead and I’ll respond ASAP.”
That was 25 years ago. I was a bit nervous for a couple of days until I spoke with a lawyer friend. And of course never getting a letter....
I’ve gotten tired of curing out the Microsoft windows guys so whenever they call now I tell them I was talking to Dave earlier in the day and would like to talk to him.
After a minute or so Dave gets on the line and say, “I wasn’t talking to Dave, it was Dale, please put him on the phone” and another minute goes by and Dale answers and I make them now to go looking for Dell.
Never made it past Dell before they curse and hang up.
Don’t be afraid. Call the police and report it.
Scam yes - but that does not mean you cant have some fun.
Call them back, tell them that they are on a recorded line, and then tell them you would like to introduce FBI agent Steven Hopper (or any made up name).
Then alter your voice and say “this is Steven Hopper, for my records, who am I speaking with?”
Most scams will not only hang up but will remove your number so no one else from their little cabal calls that number again.
Do what I did. Recording says- “I disconnected the ringer on this phone. If you wish me to call back please leave a number.”
I don’t answer the phone.
Dont fall for old people scams.
Are you old?
I didnt think so.
I don’t have any left
Yes, it is a scam.
For laughs, and giving it back to the scammers, on youtube, go watch ‘kitboga’. He calls them back. Its fun!
Do not reply, block the number, it’s a Common Scam/Robocall. I get it at lest once a month. Ignore it.
