The Who in their heyday. Saw them once in concert. Incredible.

The Who in their heyday.

I would disagree. By 1978, the Who were done. Pete was largely uninterested in the band by then, and Moon was an overweight/ill mess and was a shell of his former greatness.

They weren’t the first, but by God they were the best. It gave me goosebumps when I saw it live, and still does so two decades later. You will have to stomach the introduction by John Cusack, who is a big fan of the band.

Yep, shame the video and audio technology wasn’t a bit better back then let alone a couple more cameras. (Concert Promoter Bill Graham was cheap I guess) No idea why Pete switched from SG to Les Paul Guitars. I’m thinking he made the switch successfully in the Studio (Who’s Next / Quadrophenia) but his live LP sound I never cared for. Of course most of the time he was playing the Les Paul he was an alcoholic mess.

During the “FIRST” Failwell tour in 82 Pete IMO was on top of his game playing a Schecter Tele knock off. The Who’s sound hadn’t been augmented yet by a second Guitarist like it is now so he had to carry shows with John. He didn’t disappoint IMO.

According to Pete himself, he switched away from Gibsons because they couldn’t handle the rough treatment he gave them.

Uhhh he played Gibsons from about 1968 to 1980. His rough Guitar disruction days were over long before that. I don’t doubt Pete said that, but he is is one of the most contradictory Musicians ever to pick up an instrument.
