Ammo Question
Posted on 11/08/2020 8:46:49 AM PST by Mean Daddy
Just bought a S&W .38 Special and wondering if I can use .380 or .38 Super in it. Also, anyone have a good source for ammo? Thank you.

No. Use the correct ammo .38 special.
Use the ammoseek website.

No. 38 special ammo is rimmed. The others you mentioned are rimless.
MidwayUSA has 38 special ammo. At least, earlier this morning they did. If they're out, hit the "notify" button. They'll email you as soon as it gets in.

Um, no.
I suggest learning about your pistol and reading the owners manual.
Consider formal pistol instruction.
Be safe.

PS, don’t try. Bad things will happen, think overpressure...

No. It wouldn’t be possible anyway, and you shouldn’t try.

+1. Ammoseek is a fantastic resource. I’ve picked up some relatively cheap .38 special ammo from that site, made by Armscor.

NO! Match the cartridge markings on your ammo box (and casing marks) to your markings on your barrel. You can can use 38 special in a .357 magnum, but not vice versa.

Nope, it will shoot .357 magnum if it can handle the pressure, otherwise it goes Kablooey

Use exactly the ammo the gun was made for and nothing else.
There are very few exceptions.

Not to be rude, but you wouldn’t buy a car, and think it is okay to hop in and zoom away if you’ve never driven one.
Same is true for guns.
