Wow, 42 years ago, The Cars were prohetiv..
She shadows me in the mirror
She never leaves on the light
And some things that I say to her
They just don’t seem to bite
“Take What You Want” was never released on an album until one of the reissues years later though it was available through other methods. The band’s most underrated song, IMO.
The Cars were great, Elliot Easton may be the most underrated guitarist ever, and Benjamin Orr had a great vox.
But with alll due respect...

I modify my comment to “favorite debut album ever”
Boston: I could take or leave. I thought much of the music was repetitive. That isn’t meant to discount it, just that I didn’t find it as appetizing as others.
Guns: I liked it. I owned it. I’d go with the Cars though.
Van Halen: Absolutely a power house. Could be #2 for me.
Hendrix: Before my time. No denying its greatness. Hence, modifying my remark.

Right I definitely remember it but can’t recall where I heard it. I must have had one of those reissue CDs. Oddly enough it is not included on the double CD Anthology. That is strange.
It was part of a video shown wherever (PBS?) from concert footage with excellent sound quality. I remember watching it way back in the early 80s. The Cars had some good non-released (until reissues) songs especially “You Just Can’t Push Me.”
To be fair, the only clunker on The Cars’ debut album is I’m in Touch with Your World. It is easily one of the strongest debut albums ever. Interestingly, someone I know who saw them live said they were VERY LOUD.
I saw them live. They generally had the reputation for being stoic on stage. They didn’t have much glitz but that was representative of low-key personalities throughout the band. Almost the anti-rock star rock star. Benjamin Orr lived in rural Georgia and Vermont prior to passing. David Robinson (drummer) lives in a small apartment in a seaside community in Massachusetts. He was on a car show recently having a vehicle refurbished. Ric Ocasek of course had the model wife and lived in NYC but was almost reticent for a star. Elliott Easton taught/teaches music, IIRC. Greg Hawkes lives in a tony Massachusetts suburb life with his wife.

That is the concert in which “Take What You Want” was played. I believe it was shot in Germany.
One of my favorite oldies groups - I have 56 of their tunes.
Decided to cue “All Mixed Up” because you reminded me of them with your post.
