Yup, and many here don’t like the guy being pro-active and doing what he believes is best for our country while the rest of the empty suits suit on their arses and collect paychecks.

Good....there’s no reason to have Fed involved. It’s a local thing and there are plenty of regs already.

The science: Residential building requirements are different for different climate zones and available materials.

The politics: Let’s hear it for local decisions and state’s rights! the USSR (RIP) is a perfect example of the results of centralized planning.

Go Rand!

There is already an International Building Code and other such construction codes that are adopted into many state statutes with appropriate amendments suited for that state. Depending of state statute local governments usually reference the adopted codes in their ordinances making or adding changes as allowed under state law.

So you already pretty much have voluntary adoption of a uniform code as needed. So requiring a federal building code would be overkill.

Actually in my opinion, he may be onto something.
Low Flow toilets.
Pool fences.
Pool drain design.
Pool alarms.
Smoke detectors.
Just a quick list of drama Scottsdale dropped on me in the last 5 years.

All were mandated at the federal level.
The only thing it has done is wake people up at night to change a battery in their smoke alarm.
Fill land fills with old toilets and make people flush 2-3 times.
Create a business to remove pool fences.

Imagine what kind if a disaster they will come up with with AOC and Harris running the Federal Gov.

Now look at CA.
Regulating:
Lawn mowers
BBQ
Watering
Insulation
Solar Power
Lighting

News to me. You probably mean that a residential building that does not meet locally adopted housing code would be ineligible for Section 8 tenants. But such a violation would also make it likely that you would be cited and fined even if your tenants were not Section 8 tenants.

The Fed wants to be in exclusive charge of all future changes to the codes along with enforcement.

A standard building code is silly.

A home in California for example needs a very different building code then a home in Ohio.

What, they are just going to combine the highest standards of every state to make "super house"?

I’m glad, in Florida, we have laws that will help you keep your home from getting smashed in a hurricane. I doubt you’d need it in Montana, which might have laws to protect your house from collapsing from snow, which Florida doesn’t need.

I deal with building codes almost daily in Canada. You can only have certain codes Country wide and others need to be more local. (State/provincial)

One size does not fit all, due to weather/climate/soil etc
