Autonomous cars may be our future, but not many enthusiasts are excited by the prospect of watching driverless race cars go round a circuit.
Thats mainly because taking human skills and error out of racing equates to turning motorsport into a sanitized discipline where theres very little room for unpredictability. In plain English, autonomous car racing is boring to watch. Unless of course you take into account this accident involving a Roborace self-driving vehicle.

Always thought Nascar would be more fun if the cars were radio controlled by drivers using VR. No one gets hurt but lots more wrecks!

Some techie in the comment section is really upset that people are making fun of the car. It’s great.
The unpredictability of human error (and the occasional spectacular play) is what made watching sports appealing.
Some techies think that kind of stuff is ultra cool just because it can be done.
Non-techies think it looks like a larger version of those toy cars we’ve seen for years.

The engineer confirmed that the vehicle telemetry reported back the invalid data, however, it was not flagged as being invalid and was missed by the vehicle operators.
The old divide by zero problem, NaN, PILOT ERROR!!! RECALCULATING!

Never rely on the GPS when racing...
Maybe its CPU calculated that the entertainment value of a high speed crash was greater than the value of the vehicle?
