Anyone remember when you could buy a stick of medicinal licorice from the drugstore? Unsweetened it was HORRIBLE! I believe the name stamped into the stick was IDEAL.

I remember when this was broadcast all over the news and other outlets. That was over 40 years ago. Now, it is deja vu all over again.

I hated licorice even as a kid.
Other kids loved the stuff.
To me it was like chewing on a old inner tube................

Actually a very informative article. Not a scare article at all. Would you prefer not to be informed.

I’ve been making my own for a long time, using a low sodium brine with lite soy sauce plus sugar and some other seasonings.
Little Chief smoker in summer, oven in winter. A bottle of Alaskan Amber and you’re set.

Good and Plenty is another one. Yuck. I liked it when I was little though we were rarely given treats like today.

I thoroughly enjoy real licorice. Not black twizzlers or any of that fake stuff. There’s a brand called Panda from Finland which is the real thing and it is quite tasty. But I don’t buy it often simply because like anything else that’s really tasty I’ll eat until it’s gone.

Why haven’t you been assassinated yet by the licorice industry?
